We didn't evolve from apes. Apes, chimanzees and humans all descended from a common ancestor primate that has since gone extinct.
However, you're totally misunderstanding Evolution to ask that question. Its not like someone an entire generation of one species evolves into a another species. A new species is most likely to come about in one geographic region due to environmental conditions. That new species might compete for resources with its ancestor species and cause the ancestor species to go extinct in that region, but the ancestor species might continue to live for a long time in other geographic regions.
Humans and chimpanzees still exist today because humans have mostly moved out of jungles, so chimpanzees don't have to compete with humans in that environment.
By the way, please ignore the people who tell you "its only a theory". Evolution is "only a theory" like Maxwell's Theory of Electromagnetism and Einisteins Theory of Relativity are "only" theories. Evolution is the dominant theory of Biology and has a vast amount of evidence that supports it. The only "evidence" against Evolution is from people who think that the creation story of Genesis is literally true. Many theists accept that God might have decided to use Evolution as the primary means of creating the diversity of Life. Eventually, all theists will come around to that point of view, just like nearly all theists finally believe that the Earth is spherical, revolves around the Sun, and is not the center of the Universe.

We're descended from an isolated population of apes. Another different population of apes evolved as well, and their descendants are chimpanzees.
Christians are descended from Jews, so how come there are still Jews? It's the same principle.

We did not descend from apes, but from the same ancestor that apes descended from. Location was the factor that decided which group progresses to humans to better handle their environment, and others stayed apes because they were perfect for their particular environment.

Gosh! Why didn't scientists think of that!?
No scientist has ever suggested that humans evolved from apes. The only place you'll read that ridiculous idea is in anti-science literature published by fundamentalist Christian groups, in an effort to make valid science look ridiculous because it doesn't agree with their unauthoritative personal guesses about the meaning of certain Bible passages.

We are actually hybrids of the native humans and our ET creators, through genetic engineering. The ETs were seen as gods with their technology, thus we have being "created in God's image," as well as the "missing link."
