Try to do some exercise, your body generates serotonin..which is a synthesized neurotransmitter. Serotonin has been thought to play a part in many disorders, notably as part of the biochemistry of depression, migraine, bipolar disorder and anxiety of everything such as eating too much, smoking, etc. It's a great way to feel liberated because you don't replace it with food and make the problem even worse...exercise will make you stay in shape and forget about smoking :) Good luck! This worked for me.

I had the same problem. I could not quit smoking to save my life. Finally, about four years ago, my husband had to take off work and stay with me for 3 days so I couldn't smoke. It was ok because I had support. After the 3rd day, it was still a little hard, but not that bad. I've smoked one since then a couple of years ago, and it made me sick...I almost passed out. So, I haven't had one since. Maybe if you have someone you trust to try and help you? Anyway, whatever you decide, Good Luck!!

You can quit cold turkey. I've used the patch, and it's a luxury, but once you're off the patch, you still have to quit the nicotine, because the patch is still giving you a steady stream of nicotine.

I tried reducing my intake to 2-3 cigarettes a day. It was over a 4 month period. When I was down to 2-3 I tried to stay away from situations that made me want to smoke. Bars, parties, movies with people smoking in them. Much easier to quit when you only smoke 2 a day for a month or 2.

As another person said I cut down to 2 or 3 a day. For like a couple of weeks. After that Each time I wanted one I ate a piece of gum.

You can chew the gum. But if you really want to quit, cold turkey is best. I quit after 40 years, never thought I could do it, but I got a pamphlet from the drug store (free) and if you follow those steps it gets easier and easier. The urge will never go away, but it dims in time and once you quit and you smell your clothes and house and it smells clean and then you meet someone who just smoked and you realize how it stinks just talking to the person, you have to tell yourself that's how you smelled and it will disgust you.
I wish you Good Luck!!!

The best way to quit smoking is just to quit. I know a couple of people that just quit with no excuses like patches and gums. Just quit and never look back.

I just quit smoking after ten years and I used the nicorette gum 2mg for two weeks. Try it might work. Use the fruit chill flavor it is much better tasting then the mint flavor.

My uncle got hypnotized to quit then went onto getting shots and wearing the patch as well. I think the hypnosis lasts only for a couple months or weeks so it'd have to be a repetitive thing but it's worth it if you have the means and really want to stop. Good luckâ¥

My Dad used the nicorette inhaler and it seemed to work pretty good for him.
There is also the gum you can try. I tried it years ago but found it hard to chew and kind of bitter tasting.
It has probably changed since though.
