I was baptized into the Catholic church as a baby, and then confirmed as an Episcopalian when I was in 8th grade. I'm going on a trip to Israel in October, and have the opportunity to be baptized in the Jordan River. I'm wondering what everyone thinks about being baptized twice, if it can or should be done, if it makes a difference, etc.

Of course I'm going to do it, when else in my life will I get to go to Israel?? I'm just wondering what everyone thinks.

Baptism is a personal decision, and even though you've already been baptised... you are about to do something very spiritual and exciting that you won't get the chance to do again (more than likely). Think of it as an honor, and don't worry about what other people think. The chance is there, take it.

Doctrine and Covenants 22:2 Wherefore, although a man should be baptized an hundred times it availeth him nothing, for you cannot enter in at the strait gate by the law of Moses, neither by your dead works.

Authorized Baptism is required (one time)
I don't mean this to sound hard to you because you do really seem like you want to commit to the Lord Jesus Christ.

If indeed you do, then you need to receive baptism by a Priest who holds the authorized Priesthood of God.
The true Priesthood has been restored to the earth and is found today in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

May God bless you, and I do hope you have a wonderful time in Israel!

Well, you can only be baptized once, so being baptized Catholic did the trick. I wouldn't call being baptized now an actual "baptism", but you could always wade into the Jordan River anyhow.

Ok, it depends on your mindset at the time...

As a child, well, you were sprinkled and it didnt mean a thing, because you weren't of a mind where you "knew" what was happening.

Now, as an Episcalpalian, did you get baptised because you believed that baptism "washes" away your sins? It doesn't....

Thats what JESUS CHRIST died on the Cross for....

If baptism "could", then JESUS didnt have to die! You could of gone into the bathtub and washed all the sins away and not have to have JESUS in your life....

But, JESUS DID die on the cross, and took all your sins away with HIM, when you first believed that HE did it for that, and you believe that also....

Now, if you got baptised, thinking that you had your sins washed away, take a moment and pray to the LORD and tell him, (like I did), that you finally believe that HE was the one that took your sins away and you dont believe that "water" washes your sins away....

HE died for your sins...

Now, go to Jeruseleum, and get "reborn"...
I believe its Romans6:4 about being reborn from the waters...

I wish you well..

Jesse

When you truly welcome Christ into your heart and believe Him to be the soveriegn Lord and saviour, then you have been baptised by the holy spirit. Water baptism does absolutely nothing. But I do agree about the river Jordan, wish I could go :(

I highly recommend being baptized twice. This time you will be doing it willingly and wantingly. It means much more than having it done as a baby when it's forced on you and you have no idea what's going on.

Go for it! It is a wonderful chance to have that choice especially in Israel. I am almost enviouslol

Baptism leaves an indelible mark that can not be removed.

So I do not think it will cause any harm, but not really any further good either.

It is A-O.K. to be Baptised more than once. Some use this to Recommit their Lives to the Lord, some just do it (friends thing?).
It's alright.
It shows that you are Serious about getting Serious with GOD.
