To the 'blah blah blah there not going to touch your children' response, no youre right they wont touch them, because I keep my children very close to me at all times. But that doesnt mean they wont look at them when we walk down the street, and I think most parents wouldnt want to live near this kind of filth!!!

I sympathise with your quandry & fully agree with naming and shaming but what about all the unknown offenders out there, look at this problem with a realistic view, you are the parent here, just because you (or the local police) know of the registered offenders you can never fully trust anyone with your kids, heres a theory, you pick a nice teenager to be a babysitter it goes on for years things go great your kids almost become part of her family and vice versa, this is where to get your guard up, who are your kids really exposed to? Do you know every single adult they have come in contact with? there are offenders everywhere, if you are always aware of where your kids are who they are with and what they are doing or are likely to do in your absence then you can relax but personally I would do as much of the "Minding" of my own children as I possibly could because you never know when they are at risk an offender does not have a red light over their head to warn people off & most offences happen either by a relative or a person well known to the child so my advice is use your head be a mum/dad while they are small and teach them to be confident and wary of anything that should not happen to them as soon as they can deliver and understand language. Dont panic enjoy your kids they will be grown before you know it but while they are little the caution depends on you choose carefully who you let them have a relationship with. You cant live in fear but just be aware. ;-)

I don't know if there are sex offenders where i live at the moment, but yeah...they are everywhere, Most of them are considered sick, so yep we are surrounded by them, where i used to live on my street which was a high school at the end, it had 7 sex offenders i have known about, just out of prison or mental hospital, always be on the lookout. most of them don't get any time, and are being watched by a gardian (like that would do something). But what can we do, they are sick people.

Well unfortunately after looking at some of these answers, I can know see why there is such hysteria. I have checked google and get this - sex offenders in the UK are protected from us finding out who they are. The USA have many different sites to use to check these pervs but we don't, because our government is too srewed up and protects the wrong people. Good Luck, and if you find out, let me know how you did it so that we can all stay safe.

Call the police to determine if England has a sex offender registry, like the United States does.

I hope England does! What you describe is scary.

Yes it is a sensitive subject, i too will be trying to find out as my daughter is 4 and starting to become independent.Sorry I'm unable to help but it is one thing your not sure how to deal with, but instinctively want to protect your children. One thing that does scare me in the UK is what about all of them that are not on the file at all because there was not enough evidence!!!

Good luck I hope you find out and manage to avoid them

You should be able to go to the police department and get a list and even if there are sex offenders living close to you they have to send a letter warning you that they are in your neighborhood.

All sex offenders are put in to the sex offender registry. You can find sites on the internet or go to the local police / sheriff station. Under Megans law it is public access.

I totally think us parents should be aware of these bastards living in our area....you are right to be worried, thing is thse animals get more protection than our babies do...

What p.isses me off more is answers like the'blah blah blah' one that dimisses a mothers worry as hysteria.......well yes, wouldn't you be if they were near your kids?........yes I though so!
