I was in the store and I have naturally curly hair. So, a woman walked up to me and told me I have good hair. I was offended because that whole "good hair" thing is bullshit! Good hair is hair you know how to manage, not STRAIGHT OR CURLY HAIR! why can't people get out of this colonial mentality?
BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY CURLY HAIR IS HARD TO MANAGE! IT"S NOT JUST SOME WASH AND GO! I USE 6 hair products for one hairstyle!

I am a firm beliver that "Good hair is healthy hair", no matter the texture. Some believe that the easier to comb the better the hair and that just comes from ignorance and no self love. But it's really sad because now I hear that comment coming from more than just black folk and that's not cute and I just heard this preteen black girl talking to her friends on the bus about how she wants her kid to come out with light skin and good hair. And I know this is mean, but when I hear people say that, I hope the child comes out with the toughest head of hair. Easy combing comes from hair care and patience.

i be attentive to precisely what you propose. I, too use quite a few product to "cope with" my curly thick hair. i'm in many situations asked with the help of girls human beings, what form of curl do you have? as quickly as I tell them i've got not got a curl, some have asked me if i grow to be "particular". Black women human beings only have a undertaking approximately hair, which in and of its self isn't a foul undertaking, yet whilst it extremely is an obsession, it turns into too lots. it extremely is colonial questioning. My husband says that i don't comprehend, because of the fact I even have that supposedly "stable" hair. i think of this hair undertaking has no actual answer which will fulfill to many females human beings.

I feel you. I also have naturally curly hair. I just relaxed it. But before I did, my little cousin said "I wish I had good hair like you, my hair is nappy." She is 8, and I know she got that crap from her grandmother. I told her that her hair was beautiful, and I wish my hair was as full as her's. Letting her know that she is beautiful, exactly as she is. But she this mess being told to her by her family, and she is getting it from the media.

I hate kiddy relaxers. You have companies basiclly telling us from a very young age that we are defective in some way, based on the state of our hair. You don't see revlon coming out with blonde dye for little white girls, so what the hell is going on?

I don't have nothing against altering your hair dye it, relax it, whatever. But don't do it for your toddler.

I think it's just human nature to be envious of what others have. Curly haired people want straight hair and straight haired people want curly hair, etc. ,etc. What we don't like about ourselves is often a source of envy for someone else.

It's a slave mentality that many blacks have. Curly, straight, hair is associated with "better." It goes along with the light-skin, dark-skin thing.

Some people just adore curly hair... some people have hair that no matter how much hairspray they put on it, it falls down like spaguetti, so you should be flattered somebody complimented your hair, it means that when you're walking around people notice you.
