I have been on paroxitine for 3 weeks and it has not helped.. I feel worse tired and i cannot even do a thing I had been feeling pains in my chest every night around 7pm and a racing heart beat I went to the er 6 times and my doctor twice I was given ekg's exrays and even a ct scan and was told everything was ok(except high blood pressure) but the dr gave me peroxitine. and also clonazepam for 1 week the clonazepam got rid of the fast heart beat and I felt great but once they were gone my symptoms came back.. should I stop taking paroxitine and just deal with the fast heart beat and pain or should i go back to the doc for the 9th time? I have only had this problem for 2months... I keep asking my doc if anxiety can just pop up out of no where?
please help

Paroxetine/paxil does have a side effect of fast heart beat. It is a somewhat common side effect. If you feel you cannot stand the side effect, tell your doctor. When you are coming off of the medication, you cannot stop immediately. Your dose will have to be gradually decreased. If you show fast heart with Paxil, there is a concern that you might show this side effect with all the SSRIs. You get the fast heart beat because of the way the class of drugs work.
Talk with your doctor, but arm yourself with good information.

Paroxetine is the generic form of Paxil. I've been on it for about a year now, and was on it for a couple of years a few years ago. I've never had a problem with either the generic form or the name brand.

I would talk to your doctor and ask if Paxil/paroxetine is the right medication for your anxiety. He may want to extend your Klonopin/clonazepam for a little while longer, also.

Chest pain is nothing to dismiss. I'm sure your doc will tell you to give the med a little longer to work, but tell him your concern over the chest pain. That's not something a dr. should ignore, even if it IS just considered part of your stress/anxiety.

Anxiety and stress are usually caused by something, but at the time, you may not be aware of the cause, the stress and anxiety thereby seeming to come out of nowhere.

Definitely ask your doc about maybe getting another week or 2 of clonazepam, since that seemed to help the most. And remember to ask if the Paxil is the right medication for your type of anxiety. He may want to try you on something else.

Good Luck, and let us know how you're doing! ~ Linny

If you've been feeling worse over the last 3 weeks, I'd give it another week, at most, before asking your doctor if there are any alternative treatments for you. Are you seeing a specialist (psychiatrist, etc.) or just a general practitioner? It sounds like you've had the necessary medical workups, so perhaps it is indeed the medication that needs to be adjusted/changed. Ask for a referral to a new doctor/specialist if you haven't already.

Call your pdoc (you should have one), and get off of it ASAP. I had paxil-induced symptoms after being on it a similar length of time, and when they started I was in the psych ward! There's plenty of SSRI's, this one just isn't for you.
