At the start of John's Gospel they ask John the Baptist if he is Elijah, he says NO.
They ask him, are you the Christ, he says NO.
So they ask him, are you the Prophet, he says NO. (in the Bible there is a footnote that states this is the Prophet in Deu 18:18)

they say, you are not Elijah, nor the Christ, nor the Prophet.

Elijah= Elijah
Christ= Jesus
Prophet= ??????????

They are still waiting for this Prophet at this time. John the Baptist does not correct them, so this shows they are right to be waiting.

I put it to you that that prophet is Muhammad, and that God's words are the qur'an...what say you?

Remember God promised in the Old testament he would raise a great nation from Ishmael (ie. the arabs)

I am not muslim but I have studied theology quiet extensively. I have read the bible, the Torah, The Quran, bhuddist writings, and the list goes on. You are completely correct in your deduction. Muhammad is the prophet that they were refering too. If you dig deeply enough into the dead sea scrolls and the Torah, you will also find confirmation of your question.

Absolutely not. The Bible is the true word of God. The Religious leaders thought that John the Baptist was the prophet that Moses had foretold about in Deuteronomy. That is why that question was posed.

The Quran is wrong. I would not listen to the Quran. Ishmael's sons were made into a great nation, just as Jacob's children were made into a great nation. I would put my trust in the Bible more than anything else.

I say read the very end of revelation which says that if any man adds words to the last book (such as another book) God will add to him the plagues described in the book and strike his name out of the book of life.

Jews and the Arabs are still awaiting the messiah.
The Jews and Arabs are about to accept a global leader who will combine all the worlds religions into one. This antichrist will bring a peace deal in the middle east for 7 years between these two groups. At which time he will enforce a new world order and a cashless society where an electronic mark will be needed to buy sell or trade to help "combat terrorists"

The quran speaks to explain the past as does many other books. The New Testament of Jesus Christ tells the future event for event.

It appears that your not really interested in the truth but I will share , if not for the sake of others who want the truth.First of all Christians don't believe in reincarnation. Jesus tells us in John 11:10-15 that John was the messenger that was to prepare the way.In verse 14 He confirms that John was the Elias. God always keeps His promises and out of Ismael has come a great nation but Ishmael was born of the bond woman.It was Isaac who was born of the free woman.Remember God promised Abraham and Sarah a Son which was the Son of promise . Hagar was told by the Angel when fleeing from Sarah to go back and "submit thyself under her hand".That was the condition to becoming a great nation. Genesis 16:1-16. Now this isn't suggesting that we submit to Sarah.But to that which was of the promise given to Sarah,and that would be Jesus the Son of God , the Messiah to all mankind.I might sound like I am a Jew,I am not, but Christ has made me heir to the promise because I believe in the Son of God. Galatians 3:16-29.Now since being born of Ishmael and Isaac will do you no good maybe it wouldn't hurt for all to come down off their high horses and listen to God for a change.Then you all could be even greater nations .And we could have a little peace for a change.

Its a sad thing that most people today cannot comprehend the words contained in the writings they read. I understand that this is a problem you face as well.
Often, when I read something I must re-read it several times to glean the true meaning or to just gain the wealth of the writ.
So don't feel like you are alone with this problem.
If you go back to the book of John and ask God to give you incite to the hidden manna through His only begotten Son Jesus Christ, I know that you will see the real meaning to the scripture. Give it a try now.

When I read these verses I come away with the truth.
Read the entire chapter one and it will answer your question for you. Hint: It is speaking of the Son of God Jesus Christ.
And yes, I am a Christian man of God.><>

Good question.

It may very well be Jesus.

See in the N.T. where Jesus is referred to as the prophet: Matthew 13:54-58; Matthew 21:10-11; Luke 7:12-16; Luke 13:31-33; Luke 24:18-21; John 6:14.

Some people regarded him as a prophet before they regarded him as the Messiah.

The gospel of John was written last (actually nearly 100 years later than the events), and is more a philosophical meditation on the perception of J in a mystical sense. Not that the others are much more accurate...

However, it's a very intelligent question. I don't believe it, but that's not much of an answer.

J. the Water-splasher is held to have been the last of the prophets, the herald before the coming of Jesus. After him, there's not much point in having prophecies of salvation if salvation has arrived.

John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sins of the world.
So no Jesus was not just a prophet, He was the son of God and the Reddemer and Messiah that had been prophesied since the book of Daniel and quite probably before.

There are several good answers here, so I won't add to what's already been said. However, I think a careful look at Deut. 18:18, to which you allude, proves this Prophet is NOT Muhammad.

Deut. 18:18 I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him.

Reading this, we can conclude several things about this Prophet:

1) He must be "like them," meaning like the people to whom Moses was speaking. Since Moses was speaking to living Jews, we can safely conclude the Prophet would be a living, breathing Jew. Muhammad was alive, but he certainly was not a Jew.

2) He must be "from among their brethren," again, since Moses was speaking to Jews, their "brother" would be a Jew. So again, Muhammad is disqualified.

3) "He shall speak to THEM," meaning this Prophet's mission will consist of speaking to the Jews. Muhammad did not do this; when he realized he couldn't convert the Jews, his "prophesies" became anti-semitic.

4) " ... all that I command Him." In order for Muhammad to qualify as the Prophet spoken of in Deut. 18:18, he had to speak the words of God. Deut. 18:22 states that such a Prophet will prophesy; if a prophecy doesn't come true, this person is not the Prophet spoken of in Deut. 18:18. Mohammad never prophesied, nor have any of his words ever come true. He therefore does not qualify as the Prophet.

These are not the words you wanted to read. But they are correct. Muhammad was not a prophet of God, nor was he the prophet spoken of at Deut. 18:18.

Peace.

John answered all 3 questions, he was only a man that babtized with water, the one coming after him (Jesus) would babtize as he had the power of the holy spirit of God to do so. There is the difference. And just as God has promised, indeed a great nation will rise from Ishmael, but as the signs of what the Bible says, we are now going thru this. When "Gods' Will" comes to be, all that was and is promised will happen, though in Gods' Time, not ours.....

Mohamed did much for his people and followers today. I believe the nation of Islam has the concepts of ceaseless humble prayer, fasting, morning, and feasting dead on.

I believe Mohamed was a God given prophet and a great one at that but, I am a follower of a messiah not a prophet so I can learn form Mohamed but must rely on Jesus for absolute direction. This includes love, acceptance, caring, forgiving, being graceful, being merciful, being patient, being tenderhearted and much more to those who believe as I do and more importantly to those who do not.

I am directed to spread/share the Gospel (good news) with all that I meet and to make disciples of Jesus but I think St. Augistine had it right when he wrote: "use words only when necessary." My life and actions should be how I share who Jesus was and is.

Praise be to the one you know as Allah
