You should not breed any dog before approximate 2 years old, or their 3rd heat whichever comes first. She than should not be bred more than once a year and not more than twice in a row, yearly. Check with your vet though re: a bulldog. I have read and been told that english bulldogs cannot give birth naturally and have to have a c-section due to the size of their heads in proportion to the body. You just want to know these things before you breed. Only breed her if she is a very good example of her breed, body and temperment both healthy for a bulldog. Then get the best male you can afford. The more you pay for the stud, the more you get for your puppies.

I hate to break this to you, but because you paid a lot of money for your dog, does not mean your dog is of breeding quality and should have puppies, especially if you got her from a pet store.

Pet store get dogs from puppy mills and puppy mills, and none of these do the necessary testing that should be done before they whelped a litter of puppies.

Do some research. A dog should not be bread before she is 2 years of age. Since you're obviously thinking about it now, I'm guessing you have a lot of research to do . You will have to have your OFA and CERT tested and certified prior to breeding as well, and this is not cheap. Also, you need to make sure the male is also tested and certified. Did I mention you'll have to have thyroid testing done as well?

As a couple of the others have mentioned , be prepared to pay for C-section or you could possibly lose your dog in the birthing process.

hope you have enough money for the c-section that she will need on top of homes for the puppies that may be born.
I had one of these dogs, they are high maintence and expensive and they cannot give birth naturally due to their breeding.
You really should not breed at all but I doubt you will listen.

This is definitely NOT a breed for someone who knows nothing whatsoever about breeding to practice on.

These dogs need to be artificially inseminated. The mothers then need to be delivered by a vet by C-section.

Do some research and learn about this breed before you even think about breeding!
