Last night was the worst. We went into out local Outback Steakhouse, which was pretty busy. After a 20 minute wait we were escorted to a row of tables along a wall. The back seat was one big bench that ran the whole length of the wall and had chairs on the other side. There was this big family at the table next to us with a small infant in a carseat on the bench seat very close to our table. It was late and there was no other tables so we just kept our fingers crossed and sat down. Baby was very cute, and very quiet about 12 inches from my husband on the bench seat. Well halfway thru the salad baby messes diaper. I mean really messes diaper!! You know, that awful gag me stench. Well after about 5 minutes hubby politely comments to father that "someone needs a clean diaper". Father smirks ha-ha and continues to eat. I finally had to go get the manager to ask them to change the baby. Babies father was quite peeved at having his meal interupted. Our appetites were gone and before being served main course got up to leave. Manager was quite gracious.."comped" the drinks and salads and gave us a discount coupon for next time. But our meal and our night out was ruined. We grabbed McDonalds on the way home.

that's pretty damn rude. i experienced this same thing at a restaurant.
when i politely told the mother that her baby might need a diaper change, she became irate and asked who i thought i was to tell her when to change her own baby..
i told her i was not trying to invade on her parenting but that the smell was strong and i couldn't enjoy my meal.
again she totally flew off the handle and said i had no idea what it was like to have a baby.
i informed her that i have a daughter and i would never ruin someone else's enjoyment of a meal by leaving her in a smelly way. i told her i understood what it means to have a child and that certain places the code of etiquette and respect gets raised a bit. like in a restaurant.
she ended up complaining to the manager and they asked her to leave with a full refund. man did that piss her off!!! so she left having still not changed her poor little baby.
the whole fiasco ended with me getting a free meal.
next time this happens i will just leave!! i think its easier to just find another place to eat than put up with people like that. lol.

good luck next time.

The infant was obviously too young to have any of the foods served in the restaurant...the couple's first option should have been to try to find a babysitter for the few hours they needed for a meal...it would have been much more pleasant for them, much more respectful of other patrons in the restaurant and would have provided their child with more attention while they enjoyed their meal.

While it's understandable that the proposition of getting up during the meal to change a dirty diaper is even more unpleasant than dealing with the smell, it's a situation that the parents never should have put themselves or other diners in in the first place.

That is called RUDE. The Father should have changed that baby:(.... I can do you one better. We went to our favorite restaurant, we just got to ours seats and ordered drinks, there was a family seated next to us almost done with their meal. The Father passed a silent killer. The type that would gag a magnet. He said nothing. But the order just hung there, next to me. I could hardly breath,I asked the waitress if we could move."sorry,no empty tables right now." Just about that time the guy passes another this time not so silent.. Everyone at the table laughed. I told them,if they thought it so funny they should have to try and breath that in. More laughter. The waitress moved us right away, after she got a face full. We got our dinner free. But never got an apology from the next table.

Being inconsiderate is the norm these days. Along with all the touchy-feely stupid books on how to raise children with a high self esteem. So now you have parents who are so self-involved and stupid that they can't see the forest through the trees, and the kids they raise are nothing but a bunch of little Hitllers that can do no wrong in thier parents eyes.

no longer all dad and mom are innovations lifeless inspite of the incontrovertible fact that that's human beings like that that supply us a foul call, as quickly as any of my 3 grimy their nappies i regulate them, nicely, you in easy terms do do no longer you?! i've got in no way taken mine to a resturant (specially simply by fact they're 2 & twin 9 month olds), I in simple terms would not be courageous adequate! there has been alot approximately dad and mom with infants & which resturants they're allowed to eat wherein i think of is disgusting yet possibly specially situations mandatory if infants have become out of control. whilst mine are sufficiently previous to eat out i would not stand for undesirable behaviour as I quite have admire for different customers & might go away perfect away in the event that they performed up, some dad and mom do no longer however! Sorry, have been given sidetracked there did no longer I? grimy nappies on an identical time as eating your attractive meal? definite it is not in any respect effective, I wager if the daddy had poo in his pants he would not be chuffed approximately sitting in it!!!

it was rude and disrespectful . It doesn't matter if they were a young couple or haven't been out in a while it is the plain fact that the baby should of been changed, it doesn't take that long. and the baby was uncomfortable . it was being a bit selfish and uncaring ..

ya thats pretty bad and neglectful on that parents part. its not like theres no bathroom to change the bab in. at least your hubby said something to them. i probably would have been passive aggressive and instead of saying something, would probably talk angry about it out loud so the parents could hear it and maybe get a clue. hey, your paying too, its not their private little restaurant.

While it was unpleasant for you... try to put yourself in the couple's place. It's probably the first time since before the baby was born that they got a night out, and they were just trying to have a semi-adult dinner like they did before they had the baby.

It's tough - especially if it was their first kid - to adjust to the lack of freedom that having kids introduces into your life.

The guy should have changed the diaper - no question. But cut the poor guy some slack... it probably was his first night out in months...
