ive read alot about this wsituation in magazines and on the news and such and it really made me think. What kind of kids accept these things and just WHAT is going through the teachers mind at that point.
They are like totally destroying their social life and private life by doing this. Wouldnt u think? Its plain mortifying for some kids and the fact of making people aware of this situation is opening up kids minds to that fact that THEY could do it...totally off...but u get what i mean.
Plz reply with your effort and oppinion...thank you. =)

I can answer this question properly due to personal experience. When I was in college, I was a member of the local newspaper staff, and my english teacher was the advisor. The entire staff took a trip to NYC where we attended a journalism and communications convention. While we were there myself, the advisor/teacher, and two others we met while there stopped in a bar and had some drinks. We were definately inebriated.

She started to get a little iffy so we brought her to her hotel room (the 3 of us who were drinking with her) and I was left alone with her to make sure she was okay. Now, bear in mind I was equally drunk at the time, just not getting depressed about the matter. One thing led to another and we ended up engaging in sexual intercourse.

After the fact, I felt really weird about it. The next day I went to her room to see exactly where she stood on the matter, and to make peace with the previous night. She was gone. I spent the day wondering to myself, mainly in seclusion, about what could've happened. Did she feel all wierd about it like I did? Did she need some time to think? She didn't answer her cell phone, and nobody knew where she was.

We found out that evening that she had called her fiance that night. She felt really bad about it and he came down and they spent the day together. If she told him what happened, I don't know. I never met him though I'm sure if he knew, he'd have come looking for me.

From that moment on, I focused all of my advisory matters to another instructor. I avoided her, I skipped meetings I knew she'd be at, and my work life suffered because of it. Every time I was at work and she showed up, I had difficulty concentrating on the work at hand, as all I could think about was that night.

Ultimately speaking, she dropped her position as advisor. Things became increasingly tense between her and myself, and both of us going out of our way to avoid each other's presence was effecting our professional lives and our teacher/student relationship.

I ultimately dropped from the newspaper, left college, and have not returned since. She did the same. I was 18 at the time of the affair.

Whether this has similar effects on high school, middle school, whatever, I don't know. But I know that without the pressures of a close knit set of peers who spend time together like in K-12, and without the statutory rape issue applying, and with nobody else ever even knowing the situation, the situaton was difficult. I pride myself in never giving up, and always pushing on. But this situation really hit me hard and it changed me one way or another. I've regretted it sense and I frequently wonder how life would've been different if I'd never walked into that bar that night.

It's highly inappropriate but the sad truth is there are some teachers who are teachers for this reason. With the lack of control parents have over the kids and what they are doing it isn't at all surprising. When I was a kid I didn't have "rights" and I was to respect my parents not the other way around. I believe that this is contributing to the already easy access that pedophiles have. Tougher punishment on pedophiles doesn't seem too unreasonable to me. I mean what in the hell sense does it make or good is it gonna do to "register" as a sex offender? I love how people argue that it is inhumane to do such horrible things to these pedophiles. WHAT ABOUT THE INHUMANE THINGS THEY ARE DOING TO CHILDREN? HELLO!? Let's quit pu$$y footin' around the criminals and accomidating them in prison and start giving out some serious consequences here. We are wasting money and precious time by continually letting these pedophiles re-offend. We know they're going to do it again, it ain't rocket science people.

I think that it is a horrible situation for a teacher to use their power position to have sex with a younger student. I also think that if a college prof is interested in a consensual relationship with a student they should pursue it after s/he is out of the class. Any high school teacher that wants to have a relationship with their student should be the bigger person and not go down that road and if both parties are still interested when the student is 18 and out of school then they can talk about pursuing it. I is the teacher's responsibility to behave appropriately

I think that it is retarded for an adult to totally risk their career on a piece of as*s!

Anyone who would... has a mental illness and should be removed from the presence of underaged children.

My son's Music teacher Mr. Z. (Who I always knew was a complete and total tool.) just recently got arrested for it. Banging a 17 year old student 1 year before she would be legally able to be with him anyway. What kind of idiot does that?

He is now a registered sex offender who will never get another teaching job again for as long as he lives. Now I ask you, what sane rational human being does this to themselves over a immature piece of as*s? A masters degree in music out the window and for what? They can't even be together now...

I believe that 17 is old enough to know better. It should be a given that 30something should know better too.

When I was in high school in the late 60's, a male teacher of mine had a relationship with a female student. They eventually got married and are still married today some forty years later. What's the big deal? Why do people always make so much out of these things today? Back then, everybody just accepted it and kept their noses out of it. I am so sick and tired of everything having to be "politically correct" I could just scream!

It is hard to answer because with the case from years ago the teacher and the student were actually in love and are still married with children. But if you are doing it just because it makes you feel young or makes the student feel older that is a problem. That is why the laws we have are in place. Because adults know what is going on and children are fragile. They do things for attention, pressure, and because they do not understand.

Teachers are put in a position to protect our children. It definitely brings up issues of misconduct and age wise by the letter of the law, sexual abuse.
Children who would allow this are in one of three categories. They are 1: Crying out for help. As in they are lonely and don't get the attention they crave from friends and family. They unfortunately fall into a false relationship with their teacher. 2: Out to prove something. "I can make it with the teacher" or 3: They are truly victims of an unscrupulous teacher and are naive of the issues. They may be taken advantage of and then tell or don't.
Children are not emotionally mature to handle any of these. Teachers should know better and be punished for their actions.

I think that theres a difference between kids having crushes on teachers and them acctually doing it. I think that if a teacher would have sex with a student they should not be a teacher at all. I think that they want to have sex with the kids and take advantage of them because they can. If they say that they are in "love" too bad.. wait until he/she is 18..

There's 2 people involved and, even though teachers should be more responsible, I think many kids want to do it. Teachers are people that kids look up to, they're adults and kids want to be adults.

I wouldn't worry too much. People have been having sex for centuries ;) and unless it's rape or blackmail - or pre pubescent children - then it is similar to most other ill advised relations and nobody will be scarred for life.

In high school? Totally taboo. I agree with you 100%.

Those teachers are whack. Reminds me of those rogue teachers who sell drugs. Whack. Time for psychological evaluation, therapy, switch to new career, like road construction, or gardening. Quarry work, or working at a brick kiln.

In college. Could be unethical, unless they wait until after grades are in, maybe.... that's a grey area.
