If you try to burn a DVD by copying from an original studio released version, can you possibly ruin the original?

What I'm asking is could it make the original not play at all. Freeze up at the menu? I think someone did this to my DVD.

No at all!
The process is like any other time you have play it... no damage different from another time played...

No, by copying itself will not damage teh DVD. However, if the drive you put in has mechanical program that scratch the surface of the disk, then you may have problem playing it.

You can check the surface of it.
