Usually you just jerk the shirt up - what ever is the fastest. I can't imagine trying to take the shirt off a person that is having a heart attack or whatever. Or cut it if you have scissors.

First off ARNIE above is a perv. You are talking about saving a person's life and he is talking about BREASTS! DUH

Cut the shirt off. That is the easiest way to take care of the problem. You don't want to fool around with someone in V Fib. Just cut it off as quickly as possible and make sure you have good pad placement on the chest wall.

Time is of the essence: cut the shirt from neck to hem for a clear view of the chest, better placement of the paddles and easier assessment of the breathing and pulse.

It is recommended that the shirt be cut away so that the entire chest is revealed for easier pad placement. It would be too difficult to pull it up.

You just have to make sure that the pads have complete and total contact with the skin. The patient's clothes are going to be removed at some point, so it doesn't matter how you get to the skin, just get there quickly.

ANother consideration is if it's someone with a hairy chest, you may have to shave their chest where the pads go.

Depends on the patient. If it is a male, just pull it up. If female, removal is required. Or at least if I'm there it would be.
