I'll say the same thing that everyone else is: 'Borrow' one of her other rings while she's sleeping, or out of the house, just make sure to 'borrow' one that fits the right finger!

Or you could just get the one that they have there at the store. They are usually a size 7, because that is about average. Then, after you give it to her, you could take it back and have it sized, which and decent and reputable jeweller will do for free, once. If you think her fingers may be smaller than average, you can buy a sizer, which are thin metal or plastic bands that can be snapped onto the inside of a ring to help it fit better. That way, she can wear it until you take it to be sized.

And don't try to go with the shoe thing. It probably works for some women, but not for everyone. I wear a 7 1/2 or an 8, but my ring size is 4 1/2.

Good luck!

I'm going with the answer to take a ring that she already has and bring it to a jeweler to have them find the size, either that or measuring the finger with string while she is asleep. Remember that is the ring finger on the left hand, I know this seems obvious but I know a couple guys who weren't sure about which hand the ring went on. And as for the shoe size suggestion, I wouldn't really reccommend against that. For 2 reasons, my shoe size is 8 1/2 and my ring size is 5, and the second being my boyfriend is a jeweler and he's told me in most cases the shoe size trick is false. Good luck and congratulations!!

Go to the mall and stop in at a jewelry store and look at the cheap silver rings. This way she won't think you are going to get an engagement ring or better yet talk to one of her girlfriends and have them go to the mall and just try on some rings. Have her ask what size the ring is and then let you know.

Does she wear any other rings? If there is a ring that she wears on that finger or on the other hand, can you borrow it for a couple of days without her knowing? A good jeweller should be able compare the ring to work out what size it is. If you can't borrow the ring, can you try it on and see which of your fingers it fits? If she doesn't wear other rings, can you ask her friends, mum or sister if they can find out for you? Make sure they're sworn to secrecy though!

My husband did the same. He just went to the shop and guessed a size, if you purchase one from a proper shop then you will be able to return it if it not the correct size and take your girlfriend back to get measured up correctly. My ring was not the right size but it wasn't a problem as I got it changed. It is just nice bring surprised like that.

I would either take one that she doesn't wear very often (make sure it still fits her though!!), or, if she takes her rings off to wash up, have a shower etc, sneakily try it on. You can then tell the jeweller it fits to the knucke on this finger for example.

Another idea is play a daft game of drawing around each other's hands, not sure if it'd work but if all else fails!!!

Good luck, I hope she gets a wonderful surprise and you get the right answer!! All the best !

Either ask her mother or her best friend. Someone will know. Girls talk about this stuff--seriously. Plus, even if they don't know, they could ask her more innocently than you could. (For instance, her best friend could say that she was thinking of looking for rings w/her boyfriend and she is a size X and then ask your girlfriend what kind of ring she would want and what size she is).

Congrats!

P.S. That's so NOT true about the ring size/shoe size thing. My shoe size is 1 1/2 sizes larger than my finger size. So, I would say that that really does not work!

I would say borrow one of her rings (without her knowing of course) is the best idea here. But I agree that most jeweler's size rings for free...this shouldn't be a problem. Please don't go with the shoe size advice and expect it to be correct....for example, my shoe size is 8 and my ring size is 5 1/2.

Compare fingers with her then talk to the jewelers or talk to her best friend (as long as she's not gossipy) or the mother. Odds are that one of them will know. High school friends are especially the best to talk to because they usually can tell you what size she got for her class ring. Tell the jeweler that that was her class ring and they should know the porportions.

The shoe thing really is not true at all at least for me. If I got a ring the size of my shoe, it would probably be about my thumb's size or bigger. It probably won't work especially if she has long, slender fingers.
