"Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other's faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members in one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful."

God told Christian's they'd have to be martyrs
Jesus hung out with thieves, murderers and harlots
How can someone think that this only refers to christian to christian relationships when, while christians in his time were betraying him, he was casting demons out of "sinners"?

Wonderful verse and great that you sent it to all of us. There again, when you refer to Christians we would pray that all Christians would do exactly what you quoted. But you know all people act and think differently. Many times when us Christians are sent nasty letters, sometimes we answer in simalar replys, God didn't tell us we had to endure great torment. He gave us the abiltiy to handle negative situations in a wonderful way. Most of us try to do that, and then again, sometimes us Christians are put to the test and the limit. Not all people who call themselves Christians live and deal this way. So why do you people always put all us Christians in the same boat? Every human being has to answer for what he/she does and says. And I am so happy for you reading and writing like a Loving Christian. It is really a wonderful thing for you to do, quote scripture. Keep it up. Might help us all to stop and think about how we live. No one is perfect and God knows that. He loves us all , so sad there is so much divisions in the Human Race. Take care and may God bless you and yours, Always. Keep sending the Scriptures.

That's one of my favorite verses in the Bible. You don't know me.
Remember, the Bible is a guidebook and sets the standard for how to live. It is God's word to us.
People come on Answers to make fun and ridiucule Christians. And then you read some responses and accuse us all of being angry and hypocritical. We must all stand before a HOLY GOD, whether you want to believe it or not, and give an account of our words and actions. The difference between Christians and Non-Christians is that we will be forgiven because of our faith and trust in Christ...for those who have not done that in this life - it will be too late.

Define 'Christian.' The problem with this country is that many of the people who claim to be Christian really aren't. Those who are true followers of Christ (which is what Christian means, Christ-like) will follow this verse to the best of their ability. Those who are just putting on a show will only follow this verse when it suits them.
Of course I don't know everyone so I'm probably not 100% correct. There are usually exceptions, only God knows the hearts of the individual.

Also note Colossians 2:8
"Take heed lest there shall be any one that maketh spoil of you through his philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ:"
If you are personally not a Christian, and are experiencing what you perceive as hash treatment from Christians, maybe what you are experiencing is Christian people who perceive you as a person who has no faith in the Lord, and wishes to chastise or ridicule them for being Christian. No one likes that regardless of their chosen religion. All Christians should strive to be true Christians, it is the journey that we all make. It's difficult for any person to love someone who is mean and hateful toward them. No one is perfect, that's why God sent Christ as our savior.

There are perhaps a billion Christians in the world in one form or another so to say Christians ignore that verse is probably very far from the truth. I think the media likes to focus on the few Christians that dont follow that verse.

He was talking about how to relate to one another as all were disciples . Remember there is another piece of Scripture that says "I did not come to bring peace but, division. From now on a Mother will be against her daughter and a son against his Father..." It goes on to talk about two will be working in a field and one will be taken and the other one left. Once again I say Lord save us from the peace of cowardice. We should never put human respect before respect for God.

I'm a christian and believe that this verse extends to all people not just christians. I do my best to live this way to the best of my ability.
I guess a few people who dont obey the teaching in the bible and are very vocal don't represent all of us.
This passage shows what a peaceful and beautiful way christianity really is at its core.

Simply from a Christian point of view:
We are to drop a seed, if it does not take, we are to leave a non-believer alone and not be near them, something about splash over!
