It's spiritual by todays standards because modern man hates the earth. Ask a Native American if he thinks it's spiritual to make a trail.

Most belief system believe in a spiritual journey/path as this so aptly states it the path/trail only exist if you keep moving along it and continue to re-create it. If you do not the path will become overgrown and cease to exist.

That is because we are all here to learn lessons and also to payback Karma.
Once we learn our lessons then we get new lessons to learn
So it is never ending.
