The wrath of God burns against them, their damnation does not slumber; the pit is prepared, the fire is made ready, the furnace is now hot, ready to receive them; the flames do now rage and glow...
God has laid himself under no obligation, by any promise to keep any natural man out of hell one moment. God certainly has made no promises either of eternal life, or of any deliverance or preservation from eternal death, but what are contained in the covenant of grace, the promises that are given in Christ, in whom all the promises are yea and amen. But surely they have no interest in the promises of the covenant of grace who are not the children of the covenant, who do not believe in any of the promises, and have no interest in the Mediator of the covenant...

"Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" was one of the most famous of all fire-and-brimstone sermons, first preached by Jonathan Edwards, a prominent Calvinist minister, in Enfield, Connecticut, in 1741.

Interesting, but that's arguable. Jonathan Edwards' famous sermon did lead to a revival in colonia America called the Great Awakening, in which young people began to have a passion for the church. There could be the argument, however, that Edwards just happened to get lucky. There were other preachers like him who preached the "jeremiads," in which they would threaten people with eternal damnation if they didn't repent. The reason Edwards stood out from these other preachers...who knows? Perhaps it was his eloquence.
Another reason that this can be debated is because George Whitefield, who became famous after Jonathan Edwards, preached sermons that impacted the emotions to greater effect than Edwards'. He really helped to fuel the Great Awakening by satiating the people's appetites for passionate, lively sermons that appealed to the heart. His sermons were so good, almost all who listened to him were greatly moved. Some rolled ecstatically in the snow (then again, that could just be them acting crazy). Even Jonathan Edwards, famous for starting the Great Awakening, cried during one of his sermons. The skeptical Benjamin Franklin emptied his pockets into the collection plate after hearing one of his sermons. George Whitefield helped to fuel the Great Awakening and, because of his sermons and the desire for sensationalism at the time, attracted many new converts to churches. This also led to the establishment of new churches and, perhaps most important, had a positive political effect: it was the first pan-colonial event experienced in American history, and served to religiously unite most of the American colonies, which was a step toward them finally working together in cohesion. Though Edwards was pretty good, Whitefield was even better and got more accomplished (though I'm not trying to detract from Edwards' role in the Great Awakening). I would say that Edwards' sermon is among the most influential sermons ever, but certainly not the most influential.

without extra information than that, that's confusing that can help you through promptly answering. I searched the Bible for it, and as i assumed, it isn't a saying in there. were there cases the position God develop into angered through some thing? particular, yet "indignant" isn't God's perpetual state or His defining function. Love. Love, Justice, and Mercy outline Him, between different issues. Now I DID listen that there is a Catholic saying about "Mary having to 'carry Jesus again', after we make Him indignant". Ridiculous, for sure. a million- Jesus might want to be extra likely to be at liberty, loving, or unhappy in His dealing with individuals, no longer indignant or vengeful. 2- Mary develop into Jesus' mom, even as dealing with His human existence and and so on., even with the indisputable fact that it quite is all. She develop right into a good Jewish female, who develop into blessed through bearing and being mom to the Messiah. She is yet another good soul in paradise, no longer treating the Son component of God like she's His mom, nevertheless. i'm fairly particular God will do what He likes and that it's going to likely be a ideal determination, in preserving with each and every of the variables in touch. i'm also particular that any skills a soul in paradise might want to have are fairly subordinate to God. even with the deal is with your expression, i imagine that's threat-free to assert that that's ineffective to spotlight it. examine the a number of Bible and pray to God each day, and he will teach Himself to you in diverse procedures as you get in direction of Him.
