Because if questioned, the entire mythology crumbles. For example, if one were to examine contradictions in the Bible, one would have to accept that it might not be the true word of God, and then one's beliefs might be shown as misplaced. Were, of course, one of the belief that the Bible is somehow "accurate" in all ways or infallible.

well I dont, then again I am not the typical theist.
I call my self a skeptical theist meaning I believe that their is a creator to the Universe but I recognize the fact that I might be wrong.
Personally I believe that blind faith is one of the most dangerous things a person can have because its the root of all persecution.

Christians are quick to scoff at the absurdity of other religions when most fail to realize they worship a book that contains talking snakes, bushes and donkeys.
If God exist then God is a comedian playing to an audience too afraid to laugh.

I have religious beliefs, but I think the reason atheists won't speak up is that they don't want some fanatical believer going on a tangent.
