There are about 650 muscles in the human body.

Muscles are made of fibers that enable them to shorten and lengthen, producing movements. Tendons connect muscles to bones.

Your muscles make up about one half of your body's weight.

Types of Muscles?

There are three main types of muscles: skeletal, smooth and cardiac.
Skeletal (striated)muscles move your bones. These are the muscles that we can see and feel. Skeletal muscles attach to the bones through tendons. They come in pairs -- one muscle to move the bone in one direction and another to move it back the other way. Skeletal muscles are voluntary muscles. Meaning, that you think about contracting them and your nervous system tells them to do so. Skeletal muscles can perform two types of contractions: short single contractions (twitch) and long, sustained contraction (tetanus).
Smooth muscles are found in the internal organs (digestive system, blood vessels, bladder, airways and, the uterus). Smooth muscle has the ability to stretch and maintain tension for long periods of time. Smooth muscles move involuntary. You do not have to think about movement for movement to occur.
Cardiac muscle is found only in your heart. Cardiac muscle is also an involuntary muscle. It can stretch in a limited way, like smooth muscle, and contract with the force of a skeletal muscle. Cardiac muscle is a twitch muscle.

Build Ripped Muscle Fast

I suppose sit ups aren't the best for back, so maybe leg drops would be good for you.
I'd say do as much as you feel you can, that's what I was told when I was doing those sorts of work outs: do it until you can't do it anymore
Sorry I can't give much advice, maybe try a body building forum for info from people who know best (https://tr.im/9kWqd)

I understand that this seems like a long time, but in 6 months you're gonna be wishing you could get a 6 pack in 1-2 weeks again. Find the motivation and start now - the more you put it off, the harder it becomes to achieve. Good luck!

Three different types of muscles:

SMOOTH - soft muscles that make up your inner organs. They move without you thinking about it. Involuntary. There are not vascular, meaning there is no internal blood supply.
STRIATED - the skeletal muscles that you have to think about to move, like your arms and legs Voluntary. These are vascular, meaning they have a constant blood supply.
CARDIAC - the muscles that make up the heart, are involuntary like smooth muscles, but vascular like cardiac.

Gaining muscle requires that you eat more calories than you burn. For
those with high metabolisms, that may seem impossible, but if you try
a few of these tricks, you'll find that adding calories to your day is
easier than you think:

•Choose calorie-rich foods like granola, bagels, biscuits, avocados,
olives, corn, meat, nuts, peanut butter, milk, yogurt and cheese.
•Add extra calories to your meals by using milk instead of water for
soups, sauces and hot cereals.
•Sprinkle powdered milk into casseroles.
•Add calorie-rich foods (like avocado, cheese and dressing) to
sandwiches and salads
•Mix beans, meat or cheese into pasta or side dishes
•Snack on yogurt, shakes, crackers and dip
•Keep a food diary for a week or so to get an idea of what you're
eating and where you can add more calories
The trick is to add calories without adding too much saturated fat.
You can also consider downing smoothies or meal replacement shakes in
between meals. Read more here:

Include lots of protein in your diet and make sure to have some protein after a gym session (which should include weights and core work) which restores your torn muscles. Protein shakes are good for this. Read more:
