My husband and I just moved across country to the NW suburbs of Chicago, and we really need a good sitter since we have no family out here, and not many friends yet....I have tried a few sites such as 4sitters.com, babysitters.com, and sittercity.com but they all charge over $30 just to join, and I didn't see a whole lot of selection once you do join! We're not church goers, and so far our neighbors are not real helpful, no one wants to reccomend their sitter and risk them not being available when they need them! I've even tried the newspaper to no avail, everyone wants full or part time positions, and this is just a random gig, for the occasional night out.....
Can anyone suggest anything!?!?
Thanks!

Child care resource and refferal! they are Nationwide and offer assistance in tracking down registered and non registered Daycare , Babysitters, Centers anything like that, They will ask you some questions and then send you a list of providers near you with your reqierments, and prices, and contact info for them. They will also send you other stuff like a checklist for interviewing these places or people! it is how I have found every babysitter and provider I have ever used! Good luck Oh yeah and there is no charge it is FREE!

Try a high school. Call one as see if that they have a place or a recommendation of students who want to earn a little extra money now and then. This way you can sort of do a background check on the student. Call the principal if and when you find one and ask them what they think of the person. Tell them you are new and tried other options and nothing has worked out. Or you can try your local community center and see if they have anything available.

Church nurseries are, by far, the best place to find babysitters, but, since that is not an option, I would move to schools close by. Often private schools are a better place to look, just because they are smaller and the faculty knows the students better, but public schools are great too. Go to the school, and ask if you can put an announcement on their announcement sheet or something. Or, just ask a teacher or the guidance counselor if they can recommend anyone. Make sure that the teacher/counselor has the student/the student's parent's permission before giving you their phone number or name or anything. You don't want to freak them out!

Call the local high school and ask the guidance councilor if they run a Babysitting training program... believe it or not, The school where my children go to does. If so, ask if you can list yourself as a person in need of a sitter. Also, put a notice on the local bulletin board in any community college. there are plenty of students in the Early childhood education programs who would jump at the chance!
