I have since discovered that he only did what he did out of curiousity and loneliness. Anyway, he will not talk to me or answer my calls. I feel terrible for hurting someone that meant a great deal to me. I have tried to reach out to him but have only been faced with rejection. What can I do to show someone that I care very much about them?

can you blame him? you were not willing to give him benefit of doubt or forgiveness - you judged him on his past rather than how he was with you
why do you think he should now forgive you!!
that said forgiveness is the key to life - if you really want that you need to keep asking him for it - no matter that he rejects you a few times -send hima card not asking him to get back together but simply asking forgiveness foir judging him
otherwise you have to move on and learn form your mistakes

I'd move on, I guess. It's not so much that you need to show you care, it's that you need to prove you're worth it. Try going out with other guys, make him jealous or something, and if they turn out better, go out with them. How great of a man can he be if he doesn't like you?
