Do you think that television violence contributes to aggressive behavior in children?

If you have a child:

1. What type of television shows do you allow your child to watch?
2. Do you ever see your child mimicing something they see on television?
3. At what age do you allow children to watch more adult programming, such as horror movies?

I think that television violence CAN contribute to aggressive behavior. It depends sometimes on the amount of exposure and the feedback that kids get from their parents about the shows.

1. Disney and some game shows on local TV stations. We watch some movies together.

2. My children often mimick things that they hear or see on television. They think it is funny and want to be cool like the stars that they watch.

3. Generally I think that 13 or 14 is a good age, but it really does depend on each individual child. My 10 year old has seen some of those shows when she stayed overnight at a friends and had no problems. My 12 year old STILL gets scared and so does my 11 year old. My 14 year old got scared until he was about 13 1/2. Each child is different.

1) no sex. but a variety of shows. from having babies to horror movies.
2) sometimes but not in a bad way.
my children range from 30 down to 6 years old.
i have sat with my youngest ( ages 6,6,7,8 )and watched women giving birth, in which case the following day found all 4 of them fully dressed but squatting over the doll babys groaning and screeching
we sat and watched the cnn special where they replayed the world trade center massacre and we have sat together watching shows like the ring and toothfairy. le tme also add that we also sit and watch cartoons together along with any and every show that is child orientated. none of them have ever seen a show without adult supervision !! and that includes barney which is enough to give me nightmares.
none of them are more violent or aggressive then their peers. tv doesnt make you act out. its the parents that have that power- or lack of power.
