in "poor fool he makes me laugh," how does the phantom make carlotta croak?
i cant see how he did it

He uses ventriloquism in the book. He also uses ventriloquism to make it sound like he is in the room with Christine teaching her, and to make it sound like his voice is in box five. In the move, though, he doctors Carlotta's throat soother. I personally prefer the former method.

Yes, the above answer was correct, he put something in her throat spray. Opera singers spray their throats often right before going on stage with liquor. Helps numb the vocal chords!

He does something to her throat spray. Mind you, I don't know how that would work, but he has a high IQ and a lot of time on his hands, so he can think about stuff like that.
