No, your bird isnt getting ready to die. Did you have his wings clipped not too long ago? If so, his wings are probably growing back and he is trying to see if he can fly around. I have an African Grey and he does that ALL the time after he gets his wings clipped. I hope this helps and good luck!

It's just stretching and exercise as others have said. It is in fact normal for all species of birds to do this. It is best to get there wings clipped. Never leave them alone when the cage door is open. Birds can severely hurt themselves if they do fly and you aren't around if they start to bleed.

She is exercising her wings. This helps to keep her wings and lungs healthy.
Sometimes a bird will lose their grip, but most of the time they will not. Your bird is not getting ready to die, she is just exercising her wings. She needs to get out of the cage to fly for awhile.

Hi Smiley,, I certainly hope it doesnt mean there is something wrong with your pet... more than likely it is checking his wind speeds to see if he can fly. They exercise this way to strengthen their wings for flight. They begin doing this even before they get thier flight feathers. So sorry to hear about your other bird, but I dont think flapping his wings caused his demise.

if your bird just got its wings clipped its flight feathers that make the bird fly are growing back. some birds also do that to exercise their wings. so do not worry your bird is not going to die. if you have any questions you can email me at:

It isn't likely that your bird is getting ready to die. She is probably just stretching them out. My parakeet does that often and is fine.
