I recently visited savannah and purchased a beautiful painting from a street artist. However It was on canvas and unframed. I thought such a beautiful painting should be adorned by a finished look (Frame) Is this possible? The sides of the canvas have no paint finish at all and simply looks like tape. What would be the proper way to display this painting?

hi, the sides of the canvas have not been painted on because that is the material that is left for the *stretching* onto the bars. you dont have to fram canvas at all if you dont want to. it is very popular at the moment is to just have it stretched onto bars and just strung.(need to have it stretched out-canvas will be taut)
there are shallow bars/and deeper available at the moment that range from1/2but popular at the moment is the deeper11/4 inch in depth which givesa 3d box canvas effect.
you should have it stretched proffesionally as with the cold/heat (above a fire for example) the material(canvas) will expand/contract. your framer will put little wooden wedges in the corners at the back and if the canvas slackens over the bars just give wedges a little tap and it will become taut again.
canvas can be framed with just frame only which *sits* over the edge of it.
you CAN put acrylic behind glass but you need a spacer called a matt/mount to prevent it from sticking to the glass. the only risk behind glass then is the canvas might crack.

Yes. With a good frame on, it will look masterpiece, it was a presentation wise of a professional artist he will be proud of. Frame up an exquisite elegant one to match the colour of the painting. You can ask for framemaker, negotiate a good price between you and him/her. After frame it, you will noticed the string attached to the back, so you can frame up on the empty wall in your hall according to the painting's size. You have options whichs place can the painting be display, as long as you have to put the painting under the light (ceiling light, or near the light, or skylight, so it won't look vague under no light; light brings out the colours of the painting)

Yes, you can frame a painting on canvas, but not under glass. Take it to your local framers to "try on" different looks. They will know best how to mount it in the frame.

Go to your local Hobbie Lobby or Micheal's and ask for advice back in the frameing department. They probably can even fram it for you!

Take it to your local frame shop and have it mounted?

I have a couple of antique frames. If you pay the shipping, I'll send you one.

perhaps a matte frame...oh and don't forget the picture light to hang above it. that will give it that extra flair
