Yes, smoking is a very costly habit. Unfortunately, some children still smoke because often the picture it reflects. I think that parents are key and they need to take the role of educating their children about smoking. They need to set a good example for their children, so not smoking themselves would be extremely helpful.

I plan to quit next year, after school is finished. I know what I said may be a little hypocritical, but because I smoke, I know what could have prevented me from starting to smoke in the first place.

Alot of reasons. None which are reasonable.

1. Peer presure
2. They think they'll look cooler or older
3. Because their favourite stars do it
4. Because their parents do it
5. To piss off their parents
6. To see what it's like
7. To get a high
8. They think they'll have fun
9. They think it's glamourous

Smoking has 4 000 chemicals including 50 that cause cancer. People who smoke have 3 times the chance of dying and 15 times more likely to get lung cancer. Smoking also can cause strokes, cancer (oral, bladder, skin, lung, throat and others), heart disease. People who smoke actually AGE 3 times faster so it's not glamourous at all. It makes your breath and clothes stink. People who are addicted to cigarettes usually spend $3 650 a year on them. Smoking has been called by some people harder to get off of then heroin or cocaine. These are no reasons to put this kind of affect on your body. Smoking is run by big companies who only see you as $.

The same reason people eat foods which are bad for them, the same reason people eat and drink products that contain harmful additives (basically everything at the grocery store), the same reason people drive 3 blocks to the store instead of healthier walking, the same reason people buy fast food, the same reason people drink alcohol, the same reason people engage in dangerous activities such as skating, skydiving, driving without a seat belt, promiscuity, mountain biking, using deodorant that has an aluminum in it, microwaving things in plastic containers, and letting MTV make their decisions for them. People smoke because they ENJOY smoking. I like a cigarette after dinner or after sex or with my morning coffee... 99.999% of the people who criticize smokers are HYPOCRITES because they do things that are just as harmful to themselves, AND OTHER PEOPLE, as smoking. Anti-smoking is the newest MTV promoted fad, and the *****-de-jour for full time complainers. You people might want to move out of that massive glass house with the SUV in the driveway before you start throwing stones. Everyone is hurting themselves, and everyone else, all day everyday.

because nicotine is three times as addictive as Heroin and twice as deadly. It could also be an oral fixation or in my case I just look cool doing it. Not to mention it is one Hell of a stress breaker! It also works very well as in a bar by saying' Pardon me do you have a light ?'

They're dumb enough to start it and the nicotine keeps them on it.
I'm 18 and people I know who started before 18 had parents who bought cigarettes for them.
