They do it in Ireland too! Sick... but there are a few things that are possibly a lot worse... Like when they lick their ice cream, then give the dog a lick of it...Ugh! Or when they kiss the dog and the dog is likin their lips and everything...AAAaaagh!! Or Leaving the kitchen window open for the cats, so they can come and go as they please... Strollin along the kitchen counter and bringing their gifts of birds and mice to their owners as they do.....NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! Yes I have actually witnessed ALL of these.... Dont ya feel better now?!

Every once in a while I let my dog clean a plate before it goes in the dishwasher, so what? He's a good dog, and yes it is a fact that a dog's mouth is cleaner than a human's. Dogs can't get food stuck between their teeth, so they don't have a fraction of the bacteria that humans get.
Obviously there are not alot of dog people on this topic.

I have a dog and I won't let her eat off our plates, its not because I think its disgusting but because its unkind giving them tit bits to eat, dogs need a balanced diet and they get that from their own food, my dog is cleaner than most people I know, dogs carry less bacteria than humans do, their mouths are cleaner than ours but I still won't let my dog eat off our plates because its not fair on her, she isn't allowed in our kitchen at all because we don't want dog hairs in our food either, I think cats are much worse and dirty too, people allow them to walk all over their worktops with their grubby paws that have been in god knows what and they bring mice and birds in after they have chewed them, that is totally disgusting and gross.

This is really horrible and unhygenic! I have a dog and would never dream of sharing crockery with him... I've seen what he does with his tongue!
He has his own bowl, and fork (to get food from tins), if we do give him treats they are always from our hands... his mouth never goes near our plates etc, and we wash them afterwards!

Although apparently, a human bite will cause more infection (due to bacteria) than a dogs would!! Food for thought....

I do sympathise. My pet(!) hate when I visit other peoples' houses is seeing cats on kitchen worktops and on kitchen tables. I do have a dog, but would not allow it to eat from a plate in front of a visitor.

I think it is disgusting especially where dogs have a habit of going up to each other and sniffing and licking each others arses, i have even seen dogs do this and the owners have let the dogs lick their faces, is that where the saying **** face comes from.

I have a neighbor that threw a plate away because she saw her son feed the dog off it. To me, that is silly. If it goes through the dishwasher, it's clean.

We let our dog lick our ice cream bowls after we've finished. Like someone else said, it gets so hot and cleaned in the dishwasher that it doesn't matter. Besides, dogs' mouths are cleaner than humans anyway. They should be the ones to be disgusted.

I hate this too, its disgusting, my husband lets the cats eat of hit plate and we are always argueing about it, the result is he has his own special plate, so the rest of don't end up eating of one the cat has, even though it has been washed up.

Your right I have a dog and he's not allowed in the same room as the food, it's disgusting, also as bad as someone smoking at the table.
