The best free option for you to promote your new software to a many targeted users would be to submit your software to one of the downloads sites.

I know Beta Marker (http://www.betamarker.com ) lets you submit software for free. From that point on you'll be at the mercy of the users (if they like it you will receive many marks and if it sucks it will be buried). Another site you can try is of course the veteran Download.com (http://www.download.com ) but I am not sure if the submission there is free or not.

make a shareware(demo) version of your program and submit it to sites like download.com shareware.com I'm not 100% sure but I think they are free, plus search google for software sites that will allow you to post your software for free

1) Get a domain & web site to explain you project

2) Submit a demo to places like download.com & cnet.com ect

3) Find forums that deal with issues that your software helps with & post there.

4) JUST DON"T SPAM !

submit it to CNET for evaluation and inclusion in their software downloads section. classify it as shareware and assign a reasonable price for "donations" after the trial period. you may need to add a subroutine to limit its functions or disable it or show a NAG screen after 30 days
