Why does it take me all of a half second to synapse that this author means he was "raised Jewish" (meaning use of Hebrew is innate to his disposition): and has found "atheism" to be his outlook ?... So clear in the "gist" of what he is saying ... Yet the "prattle of little diletante wannabe Miriam Websters come running to parley sophistries instead of listening to what this article is about" ... How have we all become so smartly stupid? ... The selfabsorbed tendency to grab and lunge at an obvious grammatical oxymoron ... as a chance to play schoolmarm diletantism ... Rather than the small effort it might take, to actually yield a tiny amount, listen, then consider, and then figure out ...

Okay, I think the author has some excellent insights as to the timing of this statement by the vatican ... It is nice to see this wide perception of the motivations ... Here we don't even need MEMRI translating for us, in order that we have Likkud's perception tainting things ...:D

besides for the atheist Jew thing which I agree is a contradiction of terms like an atheist Muslim.

I will say that the author brings out good points. It is a known fact that non Muslims lived better under Muslim empires than non Christians under Christian empires.

Though to say that they were were equals is a joke. Non Muslims enjoyed a status of second class citizens while they were very rarely harmed physically Jews and Christians in Muslim governments still had to pay additional taxes, were often prohibited from owning land and being in positions of power, as well as certain occupations. While Europe was far worse Muslim nations were far from perfect.

To day though the position has changed. Now the first time in 1000 years it seems like Muslims and Jews are better off in Europe than Christians and Jews in the Middle East. Just look at Lebanon, a nation that was 80% Christian now has a Christian minority, why? Because the violence of radical Muslims have caused many of them to flee. The same is true in Egypt the Jewish community in Egypt is now at 100 when 60 years ago it numbered over 40,000. They all flead after the Government confiscated their property and expelled them under the actuation that they were all Zionists.

While the Middle East was once a symbol of relitive tollerance. It has now unfortunatly reversed rolls with Europe. Hopefully one day we will see a reteurn of the "old" Islam that has been replaced with this violent one.

There's no such thing as an "athiest jew", but sure... I'll bite. Should be interesting.
