My teeth are normal shape now after 3 years of braces, but I never had my underbite fixed with surgery. Are their other methods, and will I have health problems if I don't get it, or is that just the surgeon wanting money?

My son is 6 years old and is in an expansion retainer to correct his severe underbite. It is easier to correct as a child because the upper palate is still soft and can be re-formed. You should have the underbite corrected. It can cause problems with your breathing, especially at night when you try to sleep. My son always had a bad nights sleep but now it is improving. Go to your search bar and type in "correction of underbite in children" and press search. A whole bunch of sites will come up so you can look into the different procedures. I'm just suprised that you didn't have the underbite corrected before the braces. Good Luck!

Is the underbite big? I think it all depends on the size of the overbite... and i'm pretty sure there will be no health issues in the future if you don't get it fixed. The only thing I can think of is you might feel some discomfort, but if you're okay with it and it doesn't bother you then don't worry about surgery!
