I am going to give my fiance a surprise picnic, and I need some food ideas that will fill him up or at least satisfy his tummy.

Well the first thing you want to do is resort to any food he particularly loves. Nothing makes a guy happier than when you tell him "..and your favorite ______________"
If you are looking to get some romance in, strawberries and sugar are always a nice touch. It is something you can feed him as he rests his head on your lap.

"Keep it simple. Picnics are supposed to be an enjoyable, stress relieving experience. Don’t pack complicated meals that require a lot of setup and last-minute preparation. Finger foods are an excellent solution for picnics, and provide a nice range of choices for your picnic companions. Instead of packing pre-made sandwiches, pack a ‘deli bar’ with meats, cheeses, rolls and condiments so bread won’t go soggy. Pasta salads and other dishes dressed in vinegar-based marinades can be prepared the day before, hold up well even in the heat, and continue to take on a wonderful flavor over time. Recipezaar has a wonderful selection of picnic recipes to choose from, or to get ideas for creating your own perfect picnic recipes...."

I'd stay away from basic sandwich and chips, or fried chicken, if it is to be romantic. Maybe some finger foods? Tiny sandwiches with the crust removed? Deviled eggs? A plate of fresh veggies and ranch dressing to dip? A shrimp salad or similar? A small block of cheese uncut, to be cut on site? Of course, a bottle of wine, or better yet, two single bottles of mini-wine, like come in the 4 packs :)

Picnics are a romantic gester in itself, make sure that you pick a nice place. Cheese, wine, pasta salads, chocolate covered fruits, assortment of pastries and shrimp cocktails. Remember that this is outdoors and pick something that can stand room tempeture. If something needs to be chilled then bring a cooler. A great place to look for receipes and ideas is www. buitoni.com. Great receipes, easy to put together, and not too time consuming.

i would go with a pasta salad (add some basil, sundried tomatoes, and feta cheese along with an olive oil vinaigrette), some type of chicken quesadilla that is not too heavy and can be served at room temp (add some spinach maybe and fancy cheese), chocolate covered strawberries, sparkling french lemonade (comes in the glass bottle) and possibly some type of green salad (or maybe fruit salad) keep it light and simple yet filling. enjoy! sounds fun!!

Wine is a must, ham or pastrami sandwiches are good, some cheese, maybe some cheesecake or something chocolate for dessert. You don't want anything greasy like fried chicken because who knows where your hands are going to be soon!

Some cheeses, dips and turkish bread is always lovely! And to add a personal touch, why don't you make some muffins to take along as well.

Anything that you would consider a "finger food". You'll definitely need strawberries and melted chocolate. And, be sure you FEED everything to him.
