i think they are more selfish and also alot of their parents are raising their kids. Grandparents raising the kids not a good situation as the child gets older. If you have them you should take care of them.

I doubt that it was because they couldn't get a babysitter. I think it was because the kids were pestering to see the movie.

But anyway, as to your original question: Are parents more selfish? Possibly, but face it: there have been remarkably selfish parents in all ages. When I was a kid, I remember lots of things I wasn't allowed to have because we couldn't afford it, yet my father got a new car every year. Literally. A new car every year, usually not long after the new cars came out. And that was in the mid-1950s.

Then came the 1960s, and parents were being made of people who would really rather do drugs and listen to huge stereo speakers at concerts than pay the least attention to their kids. And I don't think that group has gotten any easier to live with. It's just that now they are the grandparents instead of the parents. They didn't teach their kids much about how to be parents, after all. They didn't know.

But also all through this period have been people who sincerely loved their children, took seriously the idea of doing their best for them, and raised them with good judgment and wisdom as well as love. Contrary to what we learned from the Beatles, love is not all you need. Necessary, but not sufficient.

I think so. I think good parents always put the kids wants and needs first. Maybe I think that because I don't have kids. Anyway, thats what my folks mostly did.

I think parents should be able to make the judgement about what is and isn't appropriate. Things that woould freak out some kids wouldn't phase others.

not more or less but definately diferent....that's very bad and i wouldn't do it but isn't it better than finding your kids a new dad if their father died or left you....in the 60s and 70s that was a common thing...so yes parents can be very selfish now but they were selfish back then too...thats just how it is selfishness is a human trait and some are more selfish than others

Society changed in the last 30 years.
We cannot leave children with anyone else of late.
Too many abusers walking the street.
No grandparents around anymore
There were't That many "R" movies in the 70s.
Seeing ""R movies with small kids is a bad idea.

overall, I'd have to say yes ... it began in the 60's and has gotten progressively worse ... the concept of entitlement was the result of being given too much for nothing ... in the effort to make life easier on our children, we have robbed them of the sense of achievement and struggle and ill prepared them to face the hard choices of responsibility. the nanny state of liberalism feeds into the hedonistic desires of wanting to have it all with little or no investment of self... we have abrogated our moral compass to the state

Times have changed. If they brought them to the movies at least they were being watched and not left alone.

It`s never easy being a parent...I think it must be harder than ever to day because there are so many things you have to try to shield your children from...Parent don't always get it right but the majority do try their best...can we ask more?

Yeah I agree.Parents seem not to care of what their children see or do and that's not right. But like they say every parent raises their children how they think its the best.
