I think I would rather learn a little of a bunch of languages than try to be fluent in a second language. Think about it, how much are you really going to converse in other languages? Do you think you will need to have a deep conversational ability in spanish or German? Or, would it be useful to be able to get simple directions or do common daily transactions in most countries in Europe or Asia? You see what I'm saying?

Assuming the first language is English, the second is Spanish, then third, Chinese. with these you will communicate with 9/10 of the world population.

Well why do you think there are alot of mexicans and spanish people around???? SPANISH DUH!!! Most jobs want you to be bi-lingual with Spanish. Why not french we're neighbors with Canada?! C'mon people ever thought about people that speak other languages other than spanish??? LIke the french, russians, chinese, all those other foreign people would like to see us talk in their language and get some respect. Let's try something different other than just only spanish.

If you live in the U.S. probably Spanish or French (since they're spoken by neighboring countries and are also quite popular in other parts of the world).

Consider possibly learning Chinese also as many opportunities are being created recently there.
