It was well known in Jesus' time that the earth was round, revolved around the sun, had a moon that revolved around the earth, and there were other celestial bodies that orbited the sun.

It wasn't until the Catholic Church came along that we went back to dragging our knuckles on the ground.

In His own words, Jesus said that His church would be known in all "four corners" of the Earth. A sphere does not have corners. Only a square, a rectangle or four sided flat shape has corners. Also, in Jesus' time astronomers believed that the Earth, sun and planets were spheres, but considered the Earth to be the center of the solar system and the universe.
