I have found putting several things out for your cat to pick from works. They like soft blankets folded up on couches, your bed, window seats. Also, they like to be up high and not on the floor. Maybe you should just wait and use what you have before spending lots of money on cat beds that may never get used.

Also, my cat loves to play with Qtips. He holds it in his mouth and runs all over the house. Simple things work best.

MY cat prefers sleeping on the side of the couch I usually sit on, and also in some soft seated chairs. It doesn't really matter what kind of bed you get your cat, as long as it can feel safe on it, so a cardboard box could be perfect for your cat. If your cat is not comfortable with it you can still buy the iglo type bed. just try to find out first what your cat likes best. (and whatever you do, don't buy anything pyramid shaped, that sounds claustrofobic)

Okay, well I've owned cat's my whole life! They mostly like to sleep on our couch or on the floor where the sun shines through the window, we also baught them a kitty tower, with three levels of beds, which they loved. But for some reason their favorite thing is when we have put clean laundry on the chair, or bed, they'll curl up all over it. It's only with our clothes though, not towels or blankets! I think they need the comfort of knowing they're "close" to their owner at all times. I think they may preffer to have the enclosed beds, but I've never had one, so that's what I know.

Truly, it depends on the cat. I've been around several and they all don't prefer the same thing. Some cats like window beds where they can see out and turn upside down with their paws on the screen. Some cats prefer to curl up on the chair pads at the dining room table, or lay on the floor in the sunshine, or on the bed or under it. We have purchased things which we thought the cat would like and she won't use them. I hope you are successful in finding a special niche for your new friend. We love ours!

I have bought my cat many types of beds and baskets and he uses everyone of them as a litter tray (even though he has one) He will sleep anywhere where you don't want him to lol! If he sleeps in a cardboard box I will put a pillow in it to make it more snug... then he wees in it! To be honest his favourite sleeping places are in my daughters dolls cot, my bed, the window sill above the radiator or the back of the chair near it. He also likes the bath mat and my lap. Cats will sleep anywhere and my best advice is get a cheap simple bed and if they don't sleep in it don't waste money on another. Cats will sleep anywhere.

My cat can't stand sleeping in a basket, it would much rather sleep on my bed because it is more comfy and it gives him room to spread out. My cat used to sleep in a basket with his sister when he was a kitten and it was just plastic with a cushion in, which made it quite comfy for them but in time both cats found alternative places to sleep that seemed more comfy, although saying this cats also find some very very odd places to sleep aswell!

I use all those kinds of things in my house. I got the igloo type thing for my old 22 yr old cat to keep her out of drafts -- she won't use it!

So whatever you buy the cat will choose YOUR bed. You may not want to hear that and it is the truth!

I have a cat and to be honest it has never used its bed - it has always preferred the sofa, chair or the end of my bed - it depends on the age of the cat and if you are able to train it to sleep where you want it - however, cats will sleep wherever they want at the end of the day

Catbeds should be extremely resilient. it should be firm, but with a soft outer coating, like a fluffy textile. But cats generally like to do a little interior-decorating so that it suits him/her. I.e. They will on occasion scratch it or try to rip it to shreds (and this where resilience helps) to make parts of it more comfortable to the cat; but this reinforces the idea that your cat-bed should be a compromise between what you can make/buy, and what the cat actually wants. I hope this answer helped.

OK TRUST ME ON THIS ONE!!
They ADORE polar fleece!! My first cat and also my current one, both steal my little fleece blanket in a shallow fruit box thing, and also my jumpers and my dressing gown.
My current cat's bed is simply my dressing gown in my corner of my bedroom. Shes happy with that! But she'll sleep anywhere I am, since she refuses to go to bed without me.
She's telling me off by 'chirping' at me cause its 12am and she wants me to go to bed!
