Like any potato style of cooking and size of potato will have a variance on the time it takes to cook. If you pierce the potato if baking it whole it will cook faster. Best way to tell is to test it by sticking the potatoes with a sharp object, if it inserts easy it to the center it is done. If whole you can also test be squeezing the potatoes while using an oven mitt. If it's soft to the squeeze it's done. On average expect a minimum 15 minutes for cooking regardless of baking, roasting, boiling or microwave, don't be surprised if it takes 30 minutes.

I usually cook several sweet potatoes at a time. I wrap them in foil and place on a cookie sheet. Bake at 400 for 55 minutes to an hour. Or I also cook them in the crockpot, wrap in foil and place in crockpot and cook on low for 6-8 hours. Poke them with a fork through the foil and if they are soft they are done.

I bake a medium sized one for 45 minutes at 350 degrees. Let it cool to the touch and you can pull off the skin with your fingers. Or I peel it and dice it and boil it in a pot with enough water to cover for 25 - 30 minutes or until fork-tender. Mash 'em up with a quarter cup of milk, a tablespoonful of brown sugar and a quarter teaspoonful of cinnamon. You should have three good servings out of that one potato; serve with a pat of butter or margerine. Yum, yum!

you can bake it @350 for 1 hour in the oven or cut it in pieces with skin on and boil until tender, take out and peel and put butter, garlic powder and season to taste..........or cut up and cook like [above] and peel skin off and make sweet mashed potatoes[like you do regular]

Untill it is soft. If you microwave or bake, it is about the same as a baked potato.
