increased metabolism, weight loss, hypertension, osteoporosis are side effects of taking thyroid medicines if it was normal. once quit after a short term use, it should hopefully return to normal but if used long term then you should have it evaluated 8-10 weeks after stopping it or sooner if you have some symptoms, good luck

I'm prescribed thyroxine for an underactive thyroid gland - thyroxine is naturally produced in the body and an over active thyroid gland can often swell up to form what's called a goitre ( a big lump in the throat) but a friend of mine once took about 500mg of mine one night when he was a little lets say worse for wear and all it did to him was make him was increase the number of times he used the toilet, if you get what I mean, over 48 hours. Yeah there are a few side affects if you continue with prolongued use but if you stop then your body will stabalize. On the other hand if you keep on taking it then it can cause your thyroid gland to go into overdrive or worse stop working completely, which isn't exactly the best of ideas. Some people on thyroxine have been known to not need it after a sustained period of time due to it "kick-starting" their own thyroid into motion (i think it's actually controlled by your pituitary gland which is at the base of your brain) and they were obviously still taking it for a while before their doctor found out and their ok so you should be ok but I wouldn't recomend continuing with its use if you don't need it.

Hyperthyroidism , or too much thyroid hormone will make a person jittery, nervous, increase heart rate, and make other changes in the body.
Yes it will harm the thyroid, because after stopping the hormone, the thyroid will make less than it should.
What is the reason for wanting to take synthroid?

I have to take thyroxine as my thyroid packed up
Its a long haul to get the right balance but when you take too much you can become edgy, You dont sleep well either.
Please dont play games with this hormone thyroxine controls your metabolism if you have damaged your thyroid your organs start to pack up slowly liver kidneys etc.
you really dont want to be on it for life like I am
