I think the better question is why do people feel they need to spend an excessive amount of money on one day? Vendors jack up the prices for weddings, which doesn't help the situation. Just keep in mind: it's about uniting two people, not about the cake, the food, and the music.

$15k is not reasonable, it is "average".... but you must remember an average is found by adding ALL totals and dividing by the amount of "factors" (in this case couples getting married in a year)... so when you equate in all the famous people that get married 2 or 3 times a year and the overly rich who have society people to impress as well.... that number gets up there. If you were to factor out all of those people and get an average based on "average people" you would get a number more around $7500 + honeymoon.
It is the high prices that made me want to be a wedding planner... WHY should a person have to spend the cost of a CAR on a single night to make it memorable?

Unfortunately, I do not think that it is reasonable for the average couple to spend that much on a wedding. I am planning my wedding as we speak and my total budget is $4500. This amount is gonna cover decorations and the entire reception cost along with all the other stuff that needs to be paid for. You can have a lovely wedding on a small budget but you have to plan carefully and spend wisely.

It's not. In fact it's just plain stupid. If you need to impress a bunch of people that badly you need help. My wedding, reception and honeymoon cost a grand total of $5,000.00. And I thought that was outragious. Your wedding is suppost to be about showing your love for you new spouse, not "is it better than Suzie's?". We need to spend more time and effort worring about the marriage as we do the wedding. Some marriages don't even last a year now and days. It's a waste. All that money could be spent on buying a nice house. The same goes for those $10,000 engagement rings. That diamond is only worth ten bucks at whole sale and you're giving some guy the price of a new car for it. And if that's what she requires to marry her, she loves your bank account, not you.

It's not reasonable. That screams a couple who was too busy to work with a budget or try for the best deal. It sounds like a couple/bride who HAD to have things her way or it wouldn't matter.

We spent $8K for a wedding, and it's gorgeous.

It's not about the cost. Everyone is so anxious about the cost.

It's about finding things to make the day special. It shouldn't take a $3000 gown worn for ONE day to make it special. We always said that we would pick ONE item of the wedding day and follow our dreams with that--regardless of cost. Everything else is minimal. But because we splurged, it's okay.

I got married two months ago and my husband and I spend more than $24K. My ceremony and reception were on the same place. My ceremony was outside in the garden and the reception in the grand ballroom. We had almost 200 guest. Let me tell you something honey, if I knew better before I would had invited 25 people and call it a day!

Reasonable or not ? Getting marriage is the start to setup a family.Family must have money to run . It is like a business and later you wll add in kids. Both of you are in the post of CEO and CFO .Wedding day is short and only a small part of it.Spenting 15K ? How much will you had to run 15 years and more ? Successful happy family ; you may ask them ? They all remember daily events like family outing ,tour, picnic, going swiming ,cycling at bench.........Ask your wedding guest ,look at wedding photos after 10 years , honest it look not better of then any of your tour photos.

I don't think it is! My wedding total was around $1500 and that included decorations, renting the hall, the drinks and alcohol, a full buffett and my dress. You just have to do as much as you can on your own. I used my resources. You borrow as much as you can, find family and friends that are willing to help out. You can make it happen. Good luck and congradulations!
Bye the way...My wedding was a blast and a friend even got us a dj for our wedding as a gift and another made our cake as our gift!

I know that I did not spend that much on my wedding. I think that the most I spent was $3,000.00. and the reception was very intimate with everyone that I had invited. I had 100 guests.

If money is truly no object ,I guess it is OK. Personally I wouldnt do it even if I could. You can have a really grand wedding for far less. An awful lot of good could be done with the excess money.
