It has to do with the elasticity of your skin, which can be hereditary. My mother did not get any stretch marks and neither did I. My best friend and her sister are both 8 months pregnant, neither one has stretch marks, and their mother doesn't either. That's why we say they can be hereidtary. If your mom got them, you probably will too.

I really do think there is something to that. My mom had four kids and did not have stretch marks. I had two pregnancies, with one being a twin pregnancy, and I have none. My daughter is now pregnant and has gained 45 lbs and has a couple of small ones only on the sides. You can barely see them. She is due anytime. So I do think heredity does have something to do with it.

because your family has skin that doesnt stretch well. the marks arent hereditary but the chance of them happening is.

The rule of thumb is that if your mother got stretch marks you will likely get them too.

I honestly dont think that they are hereditary. From what i heard it all depends on the elasticity of your skin.

Wow, you learn something every day!! I was always told that it depended on the size you got (too much weight or too much water). My daughter did not get stretch marks with her son, but boy-o-boy did she get them with her twins!!!!!!!

im not completely sure, all I know is that I asked my doc. about it because I used coco butter like crazy and still got them. I was told that its in your genes. I asked my mom if she had them and sure enough she did and so did my grandma. Thats all that I know about it. They just suck.

you are more likely to get stretchmarks if your mom got them

but other things can effect it too, gaining too much weight, or gaining too fast. not drinking enough water can also make them more likely.
