What exactly does Yahoo! mean by "catching butterflies" and do you find the term derogatory towards women?

Especially in the ad of an Intenet giant as huge as Yahoo!?

no, i dont think it refers to women at all. i think it refers to the butterflies in your stomach that you get when you are around someone that you have a crush on. so it's the same butterflies that you get when you're around someone you like, only you're not physically around the person when you're online, so you're "catching" the butterflies in your stomach in new ways by getting to know someone personally via online methods (like yahoo personals).

I don't find it derogatory. Butterflies are beautiful and come in all varieties and colors. I met my fiance' through Yahoo Personals 3 years ago. We're getting married in April. I think it's creative. Butterflies could also mean the term to describe how you feel when you meet someone new and hit it off. You get butterflies in your stomach.

it's a play on the phrase "butterflies in my stomach" or in other words, nervousness about a situation such as when you confront people you may have an interest in.

So when they say same butterflies new ways to catch them they're simply saying that you'll experience the same nervousness when you meet a potential mate but it's a new way of doing so via the internet.

I just figured they meant catching a mate not specifically a women. They could be talking about men too.

No that means catching your future husband or wife. I don't think they'd intentionally use that, doing it.
