Usually when cats throw up, it's because they have eaten grass or have a hair ball. And they eat grass because they don't feel very good and need to throw up in order to feel better.
As far as how much is okay....I'm not completely sure, but if you're concerned about it you should call your vet.

If it's just every couple of weeks, it's probably normal. So says my vet anyway. I have a cat who throws up if he eats too much dry food or his stomach gets empty. When I switched him to a good brand of wet food and feed him every few hours, he stopped throwing up, except for hairballs every few months or so.

You've eliminated hair balls and house plants, two typical causes.
My cat throws up all her food periodically. This usually occurs when she is stressed about something, like not getting enough attention from me or unusual amount of noise in the house. I think she overeats when she is depressed (I know I sound like a nut, but she does get depressed - she's very needy for human touch)
If you have changed her food recently that could cause the problem also. My cat is very sensitive to changes in diet.

When cats groom itself , especialy,
when they are moulting, they lick and swollow
up a great deal of fur .
A certain amount is normal .
However, the fur ,is sometimes too much,
for the cats digestion and it accumulates, in its stomach
( as a fur ball)
Every now and then, your cat will vomit this lump of fur out
This vomiting you notice;
could be your cat getting rid of a fur-ball
If your cat is unwell,in any way,
take it to your vet for a check up !
All the best

Cats groom themselves by licking their fur, causing them to ingest hairballs, which logs up their stomachs.
Get Hairball Remedy from the pet store and put half an inch on the cat's paw, so it will be licked up. This will help the cat pass the hair out the digestive tract.

If your cat is indoor/outdoor then he is eating something outside. My cat used to eat green grass and then come in and throw up, but she loved the grass and I couldn't stop her.
Also, fur balls in their stomach causes this.
You may want to change food and see what happens.
I would probably call my vet and ask this question if it persists.

If it has a lot of hair in it then it is prob. just a hair ball. Give them some hair ball remover paste.
