we have three dogs... one of them gets diarrhea a lot and has accidents on the carpet or in his crate.... i just took him for his 6 month check up and he doesn't have any worms.... so i am wondering what else can cause a dog to have diarrhea.. there is a warning on the food we feed them that feeding too much can cause diarrhea...so we are planning to reduce the amount of time that the dogs can eat to thirty minutes twice a day instead of having food out all the time... do you think this will help? what do you think is wrong? he is 4 years old..... and this is a fairly recent problem.....

he does jump the fence once or twice a day....i suppose he could be eating mice or dead things out there while we are busy looking for him and calling him.. it is a 6 foot wooden fence......
so anyway..the diarrhea doesn't seem to effect his energy level!

Do try that with the food. That might help.
Also, has anything changed? Fertilizer in your yard or a neighbors?
Is he getting anything else to eat? This happened to me, I couldn't figure out why my dog had diarrhea, turns out the neighborhood kids were feeding her over the back fence. All sorts of stuff that causes diarrhea. Maybe something like that is happening with you.
Get the Fecal tests run again. False negative tests are common. Or, just treat for worms. It might be worth it just in case. The medicine won't hurt him if he doesn't have worms, and it will cure him if he does.
Good luck

Wow, I've read all four of your posts and it sounds like you have been having a terrible weekend. I am so sorry for your poor puppy. From your descriptions it sounds like he is infested with some type of worm and that is probably causing all the vomiting. Worms are pretty serious and could lead to other problems if not taken care of right away. I would continue to follow the directions on the worming medication you are using if it was prescribed by the vet. But I would not give him any other medication. There are several different types of worms dogs can get and you would not want to treat him for the wrong kind of worm or give him too much, it would only make him sicker. Since you already took him to the vet and that vet did not realize the puppy has worms I would probably try to take him to a different vet first thing in the morning. A good vet should be able to determine the problem and give you the right medicine. You may try calling around first to find out the cost and to ask about payment. A lot of vets have payment plans or pay for part upfront and bill you for the rest later. They should be willing to work out the payment with you. Your puppy's life is more important than money. I really hope your puppy gets better soon and you find a good vet who is willing to work with you. Best of luck.

Most of the other suggestions could be the cause. I had a dog with severe diarrhea. We got her from the local pound as a pup that had been abused so at first we thought it was stress-related. As she settled in and felt at home we realized something was wrong. All vet checkups were ok. Food change made no difference. After 6 horrible months of diarrhea that would put an active volcano to shame we figured out that she was drinking toilet water. I was using a bowl sanitizer that made the water blue - can't remember the brand. As soon as we stopped using that the diarrhea stopped.

It could be a food allergy. Many dogs are allergic to common ingredients in non-premium dog food such as corn and wheat. Some dogs even have problems with beef. Foods that use barley, millet, rice, potato, or oatmeal as a starch tend to be easier to digest for dogs. I like Solid Gold Hundenflocken, the main meat is lamb. My dogs eat twice a day, the amount is premeasured so they do not gorge themselves. Rawhides or other edibles can also cause diarrhea.
Did your vet test for Giardia? It's a nasty parasite that causes extreme diarrhea.

If he's jumping the fence, you have a lot bigger problem than diarrhea! Fix that first. Then have the vet check his stool for parasites - eating dead animals or spoiled food can cause diarrhea and serious illness.
It can also be something more serious, like a virus - parvo, corona, etc.

Has he gotten all of his vaccinations. It could be some sort of bacteria or virus. This is why its so important to get all the vaccinations. If he is eating the same and doing the same as the other dogs, this is the only reason I can think of.

Could be:
- stress
- intolerance of the food
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome
- too many treats
- too much rawhide
- contaminated drinking water
- other health problem
That's what immediately comes to mind.
