I call ahead and order food to go from my office and then go pick it up and I usually pay by credit card. So what I want to know is that is it customary to tip the cashier when picking up the food?

Normally no. But if they were fast and helpful and really doing you a favor, please tip.

I always do, they did take the order and cook it and bag it for you, most people have to share their tip with the cooks, even if a dollar or two, they still waited on you. I just feel its the right thing to do, they really dont get paid alot as it is, they work for tips and rely on them. fast food restraunts dont count because they are making at least minimum wage.

Normally I do not tip for a carryout. However, I frequent a local eatery and know the staff well. In that case, I do tip them because they always give me great service and besides the honeys are young and hot. I love being a dirty old man..

No, it is not...although if you have food delivered, the customary tip is 10%.

No it is not customary to tip them. Not ever. We don't need one more person to start tipping. There is already to many "so called" people that think that need to be tipped.

i don't understand no matter if that's well-known, even with the indisputable fact that that's the polite challenge to do. someone has to practice your order, and that's probable taking them faraway from purchasers who're eating/ingesting there -- and tipping!

Yes, it is because someone still had to take the order and get everything together. It doesn't seem like it, but it's alot of work.
