My parakeet has diarreah?

Question

Ok yesterday i was reasearching on the internet about parakeets diet and it said they had to have fruits and vegetables and i gave them 1/8 of a bannana my blue parakeet(budgie)is fine but my yellow budgie has diarreah is this normal if it was their first time eating fruit because im almost 100% positive that they were weaned on seeds , and that they had never tasted fruit should i quit seed and fruit diet and just go to seed diet or what do some of u guys suggest?

A change in their diet will do that - always promote fruit eating. Try to balance their meals, though. Also, a pellet food instead of all seed is much more nutritious for them. I guess some people have a hard time getting them to switch, but my keets actually like the pellet food better than seed. Call your vet if the diarrea continues.

A diet of just seed is bad for their livers; too much fat. A variety of fruits and vegies is good, but sounds like your bird may have eaten too much of a good thing. Skip the fruit for a while and give them dark leafy greens (not iceberg lettuce, which has no nutritional value), broccoli, snow peas, etc. Still offer a seed and pellet mix though. The pellets contain added nutrients, but the birds don't always like to eat them.

You should call a vet for advise or drop some small pellets of solid pepto bismal in the cage, to help the poor bird out!
