You simply tell them girls don't have a penis - only boys do. You don't need to give them any more information than they are looking for at the time.

I remember my 3 year old daughter raising the issue with me many years ago and I simply explained that all men have a penis and all girls don't. About a week later she startled me (and everyone else) when she pointed to the man next to us in the grocery check out line and loudly asked "Daddy, does that man have a penis?" Kids are great, aren't they?

The simplest answer is the best. Just tell them that you are a girl, and girls do not have penises, they have something else instead. Only boys have penises. They may take this at face value, or they may ask you what girls have instead, in which case you just tell them-a vagina. If you explain it in a matter-of-fact way, like you would tell them that a dog is a dog, or the sky is blue, they will take it the same way, as a fact about boys and girls, and it shouldn't need any more consideration. IF you believe in God, tell them that is the way god made people.

The way you explain depends on the age of the children.
Simply put: boys and daddy's have penis's
Mommy's don't have a penis, why, because that is how God made them

Or, for a serious answer, you might just tell them that girls have a different kind of penis.

My mother told me that she lost hers in an accident and I think that that worried me a bit. Obviously it made an impression, since I still remember it.

I think that it is best to stick as closely to the truth as young minds can handle.

How old are they? If they're old enough to notice and ask, then they are old enough to be told. And don't use baby words. Tell them that boys have a penis and testicles but girls don't. If they want to know what girls have, they'll ask. Then tell them.

Tell them the truth - that girls don't have a penis; they have a vagina. Tell them that men and women have some differences just like the fact that their dad doesn't have breasts but you do.

well, the old joke is, "your father keeps it for me"

but the actual answer is the simple true answer

girls don't have penises

boys have penises

it is true, it is sufficient

the time will come when you and/or your husband will want to talk to them about the birds and the bees and that includes some limited info on female genitalia

Oh No! Time to bring out the encyclopedia and do a "brief" talk on anatomy. Or better yet, Tell them to go ask their father.
