"About the time of the end, a body of men will be raised up who will turn their attention to the Prophecies, and insist upon their literal interpretation, in the midst of much clamor and opposition." - Sir Issac Newton

I'm sure Newton says a lot of strange things, he was a paranoid person...genius yes, but a little off his rocker.

It would very much seem we are living in an age of literal interpretation of scripture. However, Newton was no slouch in the big brains department. It is reasonable to assume as things get more serious, people get scared: especially leaders who are hard pressed to make any decision-never mind a good one.
So it follows that fearful leaders would dip into literal prophecies or other cultural and religious materials. It is kind of a drag show for the high and mighty- a form of the emperor's new cloths- ultimately common sense will prevail, but a really champion stupid idea could cause some major problems. Remember all we have to fear is fear itself: words to live by.

As smart as he might be, Newton has a bad rep amount scientists as having trampled on a few to be "standing on the shoulders of giants."

Besides, his authority in physics does not necessary translate to religious matters. We have often seen how science, logic and rational thoughts failed to explain the existence of "God" or passages in the bible.

Lastly, knowledge is not necessary boundless, if it is then we would not have theories of Relativity nor would we have Quantum theories. In that sense, I believe Newton's knowledge regarding "the time of the end" was limited by the culture he lived in, so it does not work too well in the 21st century. It is time to move ahead.

I believe that we are taught to keep an eye on the prize. Remember the bridesmails who failed to bring the necessary oil for there lamps and were absent when the Groom arrived late...

They missed out... lets all stay aware of the times in which we live and recognize that while this might not be the last day of this world... it could easily be one of our last days.

Yes, I agree completely. Newton spent the last ten years of his life trying to unlock the mysteries of the Book of Revelation. Look at the world around us today. We have the knowledge and capability to understand Revelation and perform evereything it says will happen! Daniel was told, "Go thy way Daniel. Seal up the book until the END OF THE AGE when men would run to and fro and KNOWLEDGE would increase". We are already there!

And 1,600 years BEFORE him, and 300-odd years AFTER men have been saying the same thing, year in, year out.

And I've never been able to convince a single person who thought we were IN the "end time," to send me their assets, give up their health insurance, or take their kids out of school - all needless things in the end.

I agree. Many people are warning others about the end of all things. But society is too selfish to consider that the end is indeed on its way. The bible predicted that humans would become " Lovers of pleasure and haters of God." This prediction has become true.

Every generation is filled with people who think the end of the world is near.

I thought Jesus himself said something about not knowing the day nor hour of his return....and Jesus trumps the revelations to John.
