ok ok....i asked a question about how old one has to be to visit a prostitute in the UK like 5 minutes ago and got a flurry of answers. It seems it's illegal.

THEN, Why do I see prostitutes hanging around in Soho outside of buildings, saying "hi honey"....why do i see cards on the inside of telephone boxes...why do i see internet sites which have escorts in london who come round etc..

Wouldnt they all be busted by the police by now if its illegal?

it is illegal to pay for sex - ie visit a prostitute.

Personally, I believe that prostitution should be legalised and monitored. Prostitutes would legally have a minimal age of 21 and would have to pass STD checks AND have an initial counselling session to get a license.

Further to this, girls would have to pass a 3 monthly STD check AND psych exam.

Prostitution is the oldest profession in the world. I probably shouldn't say this, but I was a £300 per hour escort for a very brief time in my life. I was in big financial trouble and most importantly, in a very confused emotional state.

I still believe that there are women out there who can genuinely cope with the moral and psychological issues involved with prostitution. If it was made legal we could at least monitor these people and ensure more vunerable girls were not involved.

Yes of course girls will slip through the net. Yes I realise my theories are flawed - I do not have time to go through this fully on this site.

I do know what I'm talking about. If there's a market - provide it. Just make sure the girls are looked after.

PS - I always forget this site is multi-national. I'm English.

It is illegal, however the technicality of it all comes down to you pay for the persons time, not for sex. If that person wishes to perform sexual acts that is completely their own choice. Therefore use of their time is not illegal. The authorities would come unstuck if they were to try to take a person/parlour etc to court. I wouldnt recommend going into one of these 'parlours', it has been known in the past especially for tourists to go in there expecting a good time, that once inside get robbed blind of all your cash, credit cards etc when set upon by a number of bouncers. The business of leaving cards isn't allowed, these are regularly removed, but are quickly replaced...
Brothels etc though known by police etc for use for sex, I believe they would rather see people using relatively safe facilities rather than the street, which is dangerous for everybody involved. So they do turn a blind eye to this kind of stuff, as long as they arent blatant about it or get complaints from neighbours etc..

Prostitution in the UK is not illegal, but the laws surrounding prostitution make it almost impossible for someone to ply their trade legally.

However, many local authorities and police authorities turn a blind eye to massage parlours and escort agencies.

It's not different than any other major city. You can find escort services and ads in any major city. As for street walkers..you don't even have to be in a major city to find them.

....because its the oldest profession in the world and we all know that sex and money make the world go round.....personally i think that more brothels should be licensed in the UK, therefore protecting the workers and the clients.
