Neither. Go with an AERUS (formally Electrolux) the service is only a phone call away (they come to you) and the warranty is better. Most offices will provide a loaner vacuum if yours needs to brought in for repair. No I don't sell them.
The interior parts are universal for most built in vacs so you can save some money that way. Go to Home Depot and buy a "hose sock" for the hose, it is well worth the $30 cost as it protects the hose and your walls & furniture from rubbing against each other.
You can also customise your set up easier with a sales rep in your home rather than at the store. The onsight help is free and they will even provide a list of qualified installers to do the work (although any lisenced eletrician can do it.)

Kenmore. I have personally used them and so far no problems after six years. In an case, if you buy ANY brand, at the first sight of any problem during warranty, push hard for a replacement. And document problems. Demand to talk to a manager. You may be getting a lemon.

I say neither and go with Dyson or Oreck.
'Cuz they're better quality, and Oreck has like a 20 year servicing warranty and works very well.
But between Hoover and Kenmore, I say Hoover because both generally get the same amps, and Hoover is cheaper. They're both about the same quality wise.
