When I was about ten I became obsessed with dogs. I talked to my parents everyday about dogs, I watched Animal Planet just in case they were doing a show on dogs, I bought books on dogs, studied and memorized different dog breeds, and most of all I begged my parents regularly for one. I used to look in the news paper and in the internet and make regular trips to the pound, scouting out "my dog" but I always felt depressed because my parents said "you can never have a dog!". Anyway, jump a few years ahead and yeah, I got a dog. You have to show your parents that you care (you probably don't have to go as far as I did though) and show them that you are responsible and dedicated enough to take care of and love a dog if you get one. It might also help if you make some compromises like I had to do. Don't be picky as to what kind of dog you want. Your mom might be more inclined to let you get a small older dog from the pound because it wont eat much, you dont have to potty train it, and it doesn't cost as much to get a dog from the pound than it does to get an akc registered puppy.

I wanted a dog when I was young and my mom told me no. I hear from alot of parents whose children want dogs say that the children will only take care of the dog for awhile when it's new. After that the parents end up having to take care of it. Therefore the parents say "no" to getting a dog. It's a big responsibility. Your parents have that right.
I have a dog now, as I'm older & now make my own decisions. When you are old enough you can get a dog too.

well, if you want a dog really bad...maybe you should show that you can be responsible enough to have one. I know when i wanted a dog when i was younger, my parents wouldnt get me one because they knew they would be the ones who ended up taking care of it and i think thats what alot of parents end up thinking if they are open to having pets. If your mom is open to having pets...then prove to her with taking on extra responsibilities that you can handle and will pledge and promise to take care of the dog and follow through. You can also tell her that if you dont fulfill your responsibilities with the up keeping of the dog, then you will allow her to help you find another home for it.

well your mom probably knows best. dogs not only are expensive to buy. but they cost money their whole lives (food, vet, license, toys etc.) you have to think "can i afford to give a dog what it deserves?". and do you have the time to devote to the training and well-being of the dog. there is much more to it than wanting a companion. perhaps is you make a list of what the dog needs and how much it will all cost a month. figure out if you can afford it all without any help. and how much time you will spend working with it a day. propose all of these points to your mother and perhaps she will reconsider. good luck!

Obey her wishes, quit whining and harassing her, try a different kind of pet to prove you can take care of a dog which most parents know you can't.
