If he has sufficient income on his own, he could try to qualify for financing without you on the loan. You could still be deeded into title on the house and you could refinance in both your names later on down the road when you've repaired your credit.

Both of you can be on the loan to build your credit in additon to his, but they will go by his score for the better rate. Call,

if his credit is really good they may not worry about yours as much, or he can buy the home in his name only and then add you to the title later

You'd probably be better off putting it just in his name and, later going down to the recorders office and adding yours, he will have to be with you to do this though.
