he prays because he knows he has sinned. use his example and avoid the same sins he has commttied. His sins are between himself and God like all the rest of us.

Simply put, your Dad is and has often been at war inside of himself. Most of us are to be frank. You Dad just seems to have more of a global conflict where many others are only regional.
Everyone commits sins, everyday. In Gods eyes, sin is sin for the most part, no real difference or degree to God.

We are suppose to pray and repent of our sins. We are also to work very hard to not commit the same sins again. But your Dad praying is a good thing. Since we dont know your Dads heart, maybe the prayers are just an act, maybe for real. None of us know.

Remember, that God says that he will forgive us our sins, if we ask him to do so, then we repent of them and we honestly work to be a good Christian. Also remember that Christ taught us that we are to forgive a person who askes, 70 x7. We do however have the right to expect them to try to do better and to correct themselves.

Also, think of yourself for a moment. Does the devil know which things he can tempt you with? Isnt that what he often uses against you? Maybe your Dad just has more things that are big temptations to him. Maybe he doesnt fight them.

Will your Dad go to hell? The best that I can say to you is that if you dont do as the Bible tells you to do, to include follow the recipe for salvation, you will go to hell.

Confusion about the Bible? What is to be confused about? Look, if you want to know and understand the Bible and what God wants of you, simply read his work and pray to God. If you truely want to know what God wants and what is right, he will help you. You just have to make sure that you will accept what God tells you.

Clearly, your comments reveal a great deal of anger and hurt you feel about your dad's behavior. You most likely wish he'd clean up his act and spend time at home doing good things with you and your family. If you believe in God and if you believe in sin, then you have to know that only God has the right to judge a man's sins and whether or not his repentance is incomplete or not. Your dad, just based upon what you have mentioned, is most likely an alcoholic. He knows how badly he has messed up his life and his family; but, as an alcoholic, he really can't control himself right now. All he can do is what he's doing: make himself feel so bad about yesterday's stupid behaviors that he has to run out and get drunk and then do stuff that makes yesterday seem not so bad. Obviously, he's trapped in a vicious cycle. His prayers may be all that give him hope that he'll get through this.

What your dad needs is to sign in to a rehab program, and to stay in that program until he can get clean and stay clean. Your father is an addict; his physical and emotional addiction to alcohol keeps him from fulfilling his repentance. His lack of repentance makes him unable to actually receive the grace that comes with forgiveness. You need to take care of you, and part of that includes overcoming all the negative feelings you carry now about your father. As for your father, you need to try and be as patient and loving as possible, but you also need to stand firm and demand that he get into rehab NOW. He cannot change as long as he's in the grip of alcoholism. As for hell, no one need worry about what will happen after your father's death: for your father as an alcoholic, he is already in the depths of hell. Do what you can to get him into rehab as soon as possible.

We are all human and weak. The fact that your dad prays means he is sorry. He did not commit every sin. He has not killed,He has not cover ted his neighbors wife.He has not bear ed false witness. He believes in the one God and has not put any others gods before him.Jesus understood we know not what we do!
In the end times They looked in the earth, on the earth, beneath
the earth to find a man worthy to open the seven seals and not one was found.Only Jesus is pure enough for that task.If your dad drinks these days that is called a illness,Dad can not help himself. He is not going to hell.Jesus gave his life for him.

If he were converted he would be a new person and not want to do those things
2Cor 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Pretty safe assumption that he needs the lord in his life..
Don't get confused, when someone really experiences a salvation experience they are different, not perfect but different. They don't want to sin any more..

He needs to question his salvation. The key point in all of Jesus' speeches was "Repent". The very first word He spoke in his public ministry was "Repent". If someone does not change their mind about sinning, and/or does not change their ways and cease iniquitious behaviour (that is, having the attitude of "Church on Sunday, Sin on Monday"), then their belief in Christ is in vain... and in fact, they are *worse* off than someone who never knew Christ (because it is to people who say, "Lord, Lord, didn't I do wonderful works in your name?" and He will say, "Get away from me, I never knew you"... how horrid would it be to believe that you thought you knew Him, only to find out that you never really did)

First, poke around these websites, so that you know how to navigate the site. Then, show then to your father :

http://www.livingwaters.com

I can only assume that he does these actions daily (goes out drinking, comes back and prays, beats someone up the next day, goes out and prays, etc), and these are not merely incidents in the past.

Christians still sin, but we do not remain in iniquity... that is, we might slip, and fail to resist the temptation to lie, but we realize it, and we ask forgiveness, and try to rectify the situation, and then do our best not to lie again. We don't make a habit of lying to cover our tracks, or just for the sake of lying. This can be said about any sin.

If he is indeed in iniquity, and not merely stumbling in sin, I am certain that he will have a change of heart after reading what is there... he will either be broken of spirit, will truly learn repentance, and be a changed man as he becomes born again... or he will grow hard-hearted from the message, and you will know that there is no life within him. The message tends to push people to one extreme or the other. There is no lukewarmness there.

Is he even trying to change? A lot of his past is forgiven if he repented of the things he did, when he was saved. Only God can know his heart, but if he is still sinning badly, yet still praying, there is still hope. He needs to read more of the Bible, and gain strength from the word. One thing that makes a lot of difference is what kind of people he is around. If you hang out with Christians it's a lot easier to stay straight than if you hang out with hoodlums and drunkards.

If there's a god up there, I think he probably won't care if you've "repented", but instead he'll look at the gravity of things that've happened throughout your existence. For example, why would he kill an otherwise good homosexual only because he didn't accept a rule, but he'd let your dad go to heaven because "he prays". If anything, you're free to believe what you want, but you're also free to be extremely picky and open minded about your choice of religion. First of all, find out who YOU are, and then find a religion that enhances that beautiful human being that you are.

The theory of the Christian church is that unless you have committed one of the "unforgiveable" sins, as long as you ask forgiveness, you will be forgiven. If he hasn't killed anyone then he's probably ok as far as the church goes. I don't like that concept and that's probably part of the reason I am not a practicing anything when it comes to religion. I have to hope and pray myself that people like that will go to hell. It's the only way to get through the days.

Good luck to you.

He is probably using Christianity as freedom to sin. Then every night when he prays he thinks he's making himself right with God in his mind. Salvation is not for us to keep living in sin but rather to enjoy freedom from sin.
